First Saturday Practice Session Report - ResultsRalf Schumacher sets the fastest time in an interrupted session due to a major oil leak from Jos Verstappen's car. Jacques Villeneuve was 2nd ahead of David Coulthard. Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen and Eddie Irvine make the top 6. On the 17th minute of the session Jos Verstappen had a major engine failure with oil spilling on the track at Rascasse. Verstappen continued driving until his car stopped just before the entry to the pits. Due to the large amounts of oil on the track, the session had to be stopped and a road cleaning truck was brought in to aid in the cleanup process!. After more than 20 minutes, the session was restarted. The lap times very not very fast though as the track remained slippery due to the oil and the teams were testing in race trim and hence the fastest lap didn't drop below the 1:21 mark which is over a second slower that the fastest time set by Mika Hakkinen on Thursday. Towards the end of the session Luciano Burti struggling in the Prost compared to his more experienced team-mate crashed at St. Devote. There were no other crashes during the session. Mika Hakkinen didn't complete any timed laps while Enrique Bernoldi failed to cover any laps apart from his installation lap. Pedro de la Rosa covered the most number of laps with 17 followed by Jacques Villeneuve with 16. Apart from Hakkinen and Bernoldi, Verstappen only managed 4 laps before his engine failure, Jenson Button only covered 5 laps and so did Jarno Trulli while Giancarlo Fisichella covered 7 laps. Most other drivers covered between 8 and 14 laps. The lap times will certainly tumble in the second session if there are no major incidents!
