Session over with Mika Hakkinen fastest ahead of Michael Schumacher and Ralf Schumacher. David Coulthard, Eddie Irvine, Jarno Trulli, Juan Pablo Montoya, Rubens Barrichello, Jean Alesi and Heinz Harald Frentzen make the top 10.

44 min: Ralf Schumacher moves into 3rd. Michelin are doing well at the end of this session. 

43 min: Jean Alesi moves into 7th place. 

42 min: Eddie Irvine moves into 4th place with a time of 1:19.081

41 min: Under 5 minutes to go and we'll start seeing faster times as teams will now test with low fuel loads.

40 min: Villeneuve moves back into 9th place with a time of 1:20.397.

39 min: The second practice session is the worst time to crash as the mechanics have very little time to fix the car before the qualifying session.

38 min: Enrique Bernoldi in the Arrows crashes and Mika Hakkinen behind him picks up the front wing from Bernoldi's car!.

37 min: Jarno Trulli moves into 4th place with a time of 1:19.307. Pole time will be in the low 1:17's probably!

36 min: Montoya is currently the top Michelin runner in 7th place. He is 1.9 seconds off Hakkinen's pace.

35 min: Mika Hakkinen goes fastest with a time of 1:18.282. Montoya is in 7th place now.

34 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, Hakkinen, Frentzen, Trulli, R Schumacher, Panis, Villeneuve and Alesi.

33 min: Jos Verstappen finally moves into 15th place after struggling earlier in the session. Barrichello improves in 2nd with a time of 1:19.651. 

32 min: Raikkonen crashes into a barrier. Session over for him. 

31 min: David Coulthard moves into 2nd place with a time of 1:19.031. He is under the Pole time of last year as well but remains 0.58 seconds behind Michael. 

30 min: Jean Alesi moves into 10th place with a time of 1:21.143.

29 min: Nick Heidfeld is in 15th while his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen is in 13th place. The Sauber does not seem to be suited to this type of track.

28 min: Mika Hakkinen doesn't improve and returns to the pits. Coulthard goes out on the track.

27 min: Jarno Trulli takes 6th from Ralf with a time of 1:20.251.

26 min: Ralf Schumacher moves into 6th place with a time of 1:20.359.

25 min: Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen, both BAR's and both Williams' go out on the track.

24 min: Frentzen's car has now been cleared and the yellow flags are put down..

23 min: Jos Verstappen remains at the bottom of the timesheets despite doing 3 laps so far this session. He is 7 seconds off the pace.

22 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Frentzen, Panis, Villeneuve, R Schumacher, Montoya and Irvine.

21 min: Mika Hakkinen takes 3rd with a time of 1:19.836. The top 4 drivers are now under the 1:20 mark.

20 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen  stops the car on the side of the track!. He was in 5th place.

19 min: Rubens Barrichello moves into 2nd with a time of 1:19.774, that is still 1.3 seconds behind Michael!

18 min: A lot of cars are on the track now. Villeneuve moves to 6th with a time of 1:20.723.

17 min: Olivier Panis moves into 4th place with a time of 1:20.528. Mika Hakkinen is on track now.

16 min: None of the top 10 drivers are on the track now. Jos Verstappen exits the pits after suffering that major engine failure in the first session.

15 min: Interesting developments here in the second session with Pole time already shattered by a full second by Michael Schumacher.

14 min: Only Frentzen and Fisichella (of the top 10) are on the track now. Frentzen improves but remains in 3rd over 1.6 seconds behind Michael.

13 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Coulthard, Frentzen, Barrichello, Hakkinen, R Schumacher, Villeneuve, Montoya, Irvine and Fisichella.

12 min: Fernando Alonso spins but recovers. Montoya moves into 8th place.

11 min: Rubens Barrichello moves into 4th place with a time of 1:20.619.

10 min: Coulthard moves back into 2nd with a time of 1:19.962. That is 1.5 seconds slower than Michael!

9 min: Michael Schumacher goes fastest with a time of 1:18.456. That is almost a second faster than Pole last year. Impressive!

8 min: The track is getting grippier as Frentzen sets the fastest time with a 1:20.508.

7 min: Top 10 - Coulthard, Hakkinen, R Schumacher, Villeneuve, Irvine, M Schumacher, Panis, Raikkonen, Alesi and Frentzen.

6 min: David Coulthard goes fastest with a time of 1:20.655 as Michael Schumacher goes out on the track to see what he can do.

5 min: Mika Hakkinen goes straight to the top, he sets a time of 1:20.789.

4 min: Hakkinen is on a flying lap now. Ralf and Coulthard also on track.

3 min: Mika Hakkinen's first timed lap of the day is a 1:43.912.

2 min: Panis and Marques are also on the track.

1 min: Mika Hakkinen is already on the track after only managing 2 laps from the first session.
