First Thursday Practice Session Report - ResultsMichael Schumacher completely dominated this session from the moment he went out on the track he put in the fastest time of the session. A couple more laps and he was over 1.5 seconds ahead of anyone else. His brother Ralf tried to get close but without much success and in the end it was David Coulthard who managed to stay within a second from him. Jarno Trulli in 3rd was over a second behind with Frentzen, Barrichello and Hakkinen making the top 6 and the only drivers within 2 seconds of the fastest time!!. The session was run in dry and warm conditions. As this is a very tight circuit, accidents and spins are expected. Pedro de la Rosa and Tarso Marques crashed their cars. Heidfeld, Frentzen and Bernoldi had problems with their cars while Jacques Villeneuve and Jarno Trulli both spun but managed to get away without damaging the car. Fernando Alonso and Luciano Burti covered
the most number of laps with 25 followed by Raikkonen and Frentzen with 23
laps each. Jenson Button covered the least number of laps with 6 while his
team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella covered 7!. Pedro de la Rosa only managed 9
laps after crashing his car while Tarso Marques covered 13 laps before he
crashed with a best time of 1:30.230. That is over 8.5 seconds off the
pace! A number of contrasts between team-mates. Ralf Schumacher in 8th while team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya is in 16th over 2 seconds behind him. Also Jean Alesi in 10th while team-mate Luciano Burti in 20th just under 3 seconds behind. They should get better once they get used to the circuit! The top 4 drivers have beaten the fastest time set on this session last year. It will be interesting to see by how much will they drop the lap times by the end of the day.
