Heinz Harald Frentzen sets the fastest time of the
session ahead of Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard, Jarno Trulli, Kimi
Raikkonen and Rubens Barrichello make the top 6.
It is certainly a surprise to see Frentzen topping the
timesheets but this certainly indicates a lighter fuel load than the rest of
the top 6.
Monaco is traditionally a one stop race. As overtaking is
nearly impossible, stopping early will put a driver behind a slower car and
get stuck until they pit. This probably explains Montoya's lack of pace (he is
in 20th place) as he would probably go out with the most fuel possible and
control the race from the lead.
There were no major incidents during the session although
Pedro de la Rosa spun harmlessly towards the end of the session.
Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine covered the most number of laps with 17
while Alex Yoong only managed 5 and Jenson Button just 8. All other drivers
covered between 12 and 16 laps each.
Well get set for an interesting race where for the first
time this season we have a Williams and a McLaren on the front row!
