Warm-up Session Report - ResultsDavid Coulthard put in a stunning lap towards the end of the session to top the timesheets and setting a time that is over 0.4 seconds faster than the fastest time set by Pole setter Michael Schumacher. Yesterday after qualifying, Coulthard did indicate that he was more comfortable with his car with some fuel on board as against a very light fuel load as in the case during qualifying. Obviously not much can be read into the Warm-up times but it certainly appears that Michael and David are closely matched in race trim which should make for an exciting race. Behind those two, Rubens Barrichello was
third with Ralf Schumacher in 4th and Mika Hakkinen in 5th while Jarno
Trulli continues his impressive form setting the 6th fastest time. There were no major incidents during the session but both Fisichella and Button appeared to be having problems. In fact Button ended up at the bottom of the timesheets almost 4.5 seconds off the pace. Very similar to Qualifying, the midfield is very close with just 0.85 seconds separating Heidfeld in 7th and Fisichella in 15th. Montoya, Frentzen and Verstappen covered
the most number of laps with 17 each while Jenson Button covered the least
with 8 while Fisichella only managed 11. David Coulthard also covered 11
laps possibly in an attempt to save his tyres for the race. As usual it is hard to draw conclusions from the Warm-up times but looking at the improvement that Coulthard has made compared to the Ferrari's while Hakkinen remained behind could indicate that Coulthard might be on a different strategy or will be running a lighter fuel load at the start. Race starts at 2:00 PM local time. Go to the Live Update page for live coverage during the Race.
