Hakkinen wins the race ahead of Michael Schumacher with Coulthard
in 3rd. Ralf Schumacher, Juan Pablo Montoya and Rubens Barrichello all retire from the race. The lead changed a number of times mainly due to different pit stop strategies but Montoya actually managed to overtake Michael for the lead on the track. 14 cars crossed the finish line. McLaren, Jordan, Jaguar, Benetton, Prost managed to finish both their cars. Williams and Minardi failed to finish either of their cars. |

Schumacher wins the race after starting from Pole position. David
Coulthard jumped the start and was given a 10 second stop-go
penalty while Mika Hakkinen suffered an engine failure trying to
catch Michael. Rubens Barrichello finished second benefiting from excellent pit work and a number of retirements ahead of him. Heinz Harald Frentzen finished 3rd just ahead of Jacques Villeneuve after an exciting fight between the two. The race started under damp conditions with most of the drivers starting the race on intermediates and then switching to dry tyres. 12 cars crossed the finish line. Ferrari, BAR and Jaguar managed to finish both their cars. Williams and Arrows failed to finish either of their cars. |
