Second Saturday Practice Session Report - ResultsMichael Schumacher remained on top of the time sheets despite not improving his time from the first session and parking his car on the side of the track with 5 minutes to go. Mika Hakkinen was the closest to him 0.252 seconds behind while Nick Heidfeld was impressive in 3rd place ahead of Ralf Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello and Juan Pablo Montoya. The session was fairly static with no many drivers improving on their times from the first session. It appeared as if most of the drivers found their optimum setup and are waiting for qualifying. One driver who is certainly not happy with his car is Villeneuve who is back in 19th mixing it with Arrows and Minardi! No major incidents during the session although Michael Schumacher parked his car on the side of the track towards the end of the session. A number of drivers spun but managed to recover The gaps between the drivers have closed slightly but they are not as close as they were yesterday. Less than 0.4 seconds separate the top 5 while a second separates the top 9. At this stage it looks as if Michael Schumacher will take Pole comfortably while the battle for the top grid positions will be between Ferrari, McLaren and Williams with a possible surprise from Sauber and Benetton. Eddie Irvine covered the most number of
laps this session with 23 while both Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button
covered the least number of laps with 8 each. The session was run under partly cloudy skies and an average air temperature of 15 degrees. Qualifying starts at 1:00 PM local time. Go to the Live Update page for live coverage during Qualifying.
