42 min: Olivier Panis in 16th has so far covered 22 laps this session and is trying desperately to find a good race set-up for his BAR.

39 min: Tomas Enge currently in 15th spins and while trying to recover the car into the right direction stalls. Session over for him.

38 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen continues to do an impressive job in the Prost moving into 7th place with a time of 1:13.850.

37 min: Not many improvements as the drivers are working on their race set-up with long runs and used tyres.

35 min: Jacques Villeneuve takes 21st from Yoong!

33 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Coulthard, Hakkinen, Irvine, Heidfeld, de la Rosa, R Schumacher, Montoya and Raikkonen.

32 min: It is amazingly close so far with the top 13 separated by under 0.7 seconds.

31 min: David Coulthard improves his time but remains in 3rd place. Irvine moves into 5th place!

30 min: Pedro de la Rosa in the Jaguar moves into 7th place with a time of 1:13.917. 4 Michelin runners are in the top 10 at the moment.

29 min: Ralf Schumacher moves into 7th place just ahead of his team-mate. Meanwhile Villeneuve improves on his time but remains in 22nd place, 2.86 seconds off the pace.

28 min: Mika Hakkinen moves back into 4th with a time of 1:13.798. Ralf Schumacher on a flyer.

27 min: Fernando Alonso appearing for the first time here at the Indy track is in 18th place ahead of both the Arrows and his team-mate and Villeneuve!

26 min: Jacques Villeneuve currently in 22nd place is on the track hoping for an improvement. He has not improved his time since the first session.

25 min: Tomas Enge moves up into 14th place with a time of 1:14.767. A good result for the young driver.

23 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Barrichello, Coulthard, Heidfeld, Montoya, Hakkinen, Button, Trulli, Frentzen and R Schumacher.

22 min: Jenson Button moves back into the top 10 with a time of 1:14.186 in 7th.

19 min: And he (Frentzen) suffers some kind of a problem as he slows dramatically and heads back to the pits!

18 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen moves into 8th place with a time of 1:14.249. The Michelin runners are doing well.

13 min: Olivier Panis moves into 8th place indicating that Villeneuve (in 22nd place) is struggling with set-up.

9 min: Coulthard improves but remains in 3rd behind the 2 Ferrari drivers. Jarno Trulli moves into 5th.

8 min: Rubens Barrichello takes second with a time of 1:13.584. Ferrari are very competitive here.

7 min: Alex Yoong has managed to take 21st from Villeneuve who appears to be having major set-up problems here.

6 min: Michael Schumacher goes fastest with a time of 1:13.552. Coulthard moves into second with a 1:13.921. It looks like McLaren are competitive here.
