29 min: Another drama for McLaren with Hakkinen going off and slightly hitting the barrier. His session is over.

28 min: Drivers are now on their final runs.

27 min: This is amazingly close. Just 0.308 seconds separates the top 8!

26 min: Top 10 - R Schumacher, Coulthard, Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Verstappen, Montoya, Raikkonen, Barrichello, Heidfeld and Irvine.

24 min: Juan Pablo Montoya moves into 4th place with a time of 1:14.063. Coulthard runs wide at turn 7. He pits.

24 min: Pedro de la Rosa moves into 7th place. The Jaguar's also appear to be trying light fuel loads..

23 min: So far Villeneuve has covered the most number of laps with 13. He is in 18th place. Same as his position in qualifying.

22 min: Top 10 - Coulthard, Hakkinen, Verstappen, Raikkonen, M Schumacher, Barrichello, Irvine, R Schumacher, Fisichella and de la Rosa.

21 min: Fisichella goes straight into 9th place!

20 min: Mika Hakkinen moves into second place with a time of 1:14.025. 

19 min: Looking at Verstappen's time, one can assume that he is on a lighter fuel load which implies more pits stops than the rest.

18 min: Giancarlo Fisichella finally gets on the track. This seems a common practice at Benetton!

16 min: Coulthard remains at the top of the timesheets ahead of Verstappen and Michael. Fisichella is the only one yet to set a time.

14 min: Eddie Irvine moves into 7th place with a time of 1:14.903. Panis moves into 18th place.

13 min: Rubens Barrichello spins and gets stuck in the gravel. He has to go back and get the spare. He is in 4th.

12 min: Panis stalls while practicing a start so he jumps out and takes the spare!

11 min: Button takes 9th from de la Rosa while Montoya is in 11th place.

10 min: Top 10 - Coulthard, Verstappen, M Schumacher, Barrichello, Hakkinen, Raikkonen, R Schumacher, Trulli, de la Rosa and Button.

10 min: Michael Schumacher moves into 3rd with a time of 1:14.220

9 min: Coulthard goes fastest with a time of 1:13.982. 

8 min: Jos Verstappen goes faster with a 1:14.036. Alesi is third with a 1:15.599.

8 min: Mika Hakkinen sets the fastest time so far with a 1:14.474

7 min: Most of the field is on the track!

6 min: Session restarted and the cars go back out onto the track.

6 min: Red Flag - The session is expected to restart in a few minutes. Having oil on the oval part of the track can be very dangerous given the very high speeds the cars travel through that part of the track.

6 min: Red Flag - Montoya is back in the pits but the marshals are still cleaning the track from the oil.

6 min: Red Flag - Montoya's car is stopped on the Start/Finish line and had a lot of oil on the track. It is a dangerous situation and the track is being cleaned and the car removed.

6 min: Montoya's engine blows and his car is stopped on the track. The session is Red flagged!

5 min: Villeneuve sets a time of 1:17.566. Montoya, Hakkinen and Barrichello are also on track.

4 min: Jacques Villeneuve is the first to go out on a timed lap. He qualified a low 18th yesterday!

3 min: Olivier Panis is the last driver to leave for his shakedown lap.

2 min: Those with spare cars will take the spare car for a shakedown as soon as they get back into the pits.
