First Saturday Practice Session Report - ResultsMichael Schumacher set a stunning lap time at the end of the session and topping the timesheets for the session. Moments earlier, Juan Pablo Montoya topped the timesheets and was the first to beat the pole time of last year. Mika Hakkinen ended third still very strong. Rubens Barrichello, David Coulthard and Heinz Harald Frentzen made the top 6. Olivier Panis and Jacques Villeneuve made 7th and 8th while Kimi Raikkonen and Nick Heidfeld made 9th and 10th. Missing from the top 10 was Ralf Schumacher who ended up 12th and Jarno Trulli who finished in 14th place despite suffering an engine failure that limited his running to just 5 laps. No major incidents however Marques failed to complete any laps, Raikkonen missed out on the first 30 minutes of the session, Pedro de la Rosa stopped on the track with a problem and Jarno Trulli suffered an engine failure. Several drivers went off the track but recovered. Michael Schumacher covered the most number of laps with 17 followed by David Coulthard and Fernando Alonso with 16 each. Tarso Marques didn't complete any laps while Jarno Trulli only managed 5, Kimi Raikkonen 7 and Pedro de la Rosa 8. Most other drivers covered between 10 and 15 laps. The top 6 are separated by less than a second which is a good sign that no team is so dominant. The track gets faster all the time so in qualifying could bring up a few surprises as whoever can wait till the last minute but yet avoid traffic can get on pole.
