David Coulthard sets the fastest time of the session ahead of team-mate Mika Hakkinen and Rubens Barrichello. Ralf Schumacher, Michael Schumacher, Nick Heidfeld, Heinz Harald Frentzen, Kimi Raikkonen, Olivier Panis and Jacques Villeneuve make the top 10. 60 min: David Coulthard moves into first place ahead of Mika Hakkinen. His time 1:11.245. 60 min: Session over with a few cars still on fast laps. 59 min: Rubens Barrichello retakes 2nd from Coulthard with a time of 1:11.401. 58 min: No improvement from Hakkinen but still in first. 56 min: Most cars are on the track. 55 min: Michael Schumacher loses it but recovers. Hakkinen on track for his last run. 54 min: David Coulthard retakes second spot with a time of 1:11.480. 53 min: David Coulthard and Michael Schumacher are back on the track. 52 min: Panis in the gravel and stuck there! 51 min: Nick Heidfeld improves to 6th place just behind Coulthard. 50 min: Ralf Schumacher moves into 3rd with a time of 1:11.555 49 min: Michael Schumacher pits as Ralf Schumacher and Jacques Villeneuve go out on track. 48 min: Relatively quiet on the track with only the 2 Ferrari's and a Prost on the track. 47 min: Michael Schumacher on a long run. He has done 16 laps so far this session. 46 min: Eddie Irvine moves into 12th place with a time of 1:12.346. 45 min: Michael Schumacher moves into 3rd ahead of David Coulthard with a time of 1:11.647. 44 min: Top speed again for Jos Verstappen at 307 km/H. He is in 14th losing a lot of times in the slow corners. 43 min: Rubens Barrichello moves into 2nd place with a time of 1:11.504. Over 0.2 seconds slower than Hakkinen's time. 42 min: Giancarlo Fisichella improves in 21st place! Only Jenson Button is behind him who suffered an engine failure. 41 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, Coulthard, M Schumacher, Barrichello, Frentzen, R Schumacher, Heidfeld, Raikkonen, Panis and Villeneuve. 40 min: The top 5 drivers are lapping in the 1:11's 39 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen jumps into 5th while Ralf Schumacher moves into 6th. 38 min: Michael Schumacher takes back third place from his team-mate Barrichello. His time is equal that of David Coulthard. 37 min: Nick Heidfeld improves while his team-mate Kimi doesn't. 36 min: Kimi Raikkonen on the track, his team-mate is just ahead of him. 35 min: Olivier Panis moves ahead of his team-mate into 7th place with a time of 1:12.259 34 min: Rubens Barrichello goes third with a time of 1:11.776. Michael Schumacher has only covered 7 laps so far this session! 33 min: Eddie Irvine improves in 15th still lapping the 1:13's though. 32 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen moves into 13th place. He is 1.7 seconds off the pace. 31 min: Rubens Barrichello improves to 4th place with a time of 1:11.975. His time is 1:11.272! 25 min: Villeneuve improves again to 6th with a time of 1:12.290. 24 min: David Coulthard takes second with a time of 1:11.759 while Raikkonen is up in 4th! 23 min: Jacques Villeneuve on a long run moves up to 7th. 22 min: Mika Hakkinen improves in 1st with a time of 1:11.683. 21 min: Fernando Alonso moves into 20th ahead of the two Benettons. 20 min: Kimi Raikkonen moves ahead of Trulli in 6th. Villeneuve improves to 11th and Frentzen to 15th. 19 min: Frentzen is in 20th place on his first flying lap of the day. 18 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, Montoya, Trulli, Raikkonen, R Schumacher, Heidfeld and Bernoldi. 17 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen finally on track. Tarso Marques improves to 16th! 16 min: Both Trulli and Montoya go off but recover. Pedro de la Rosa improves but remains in 15th behind his team-mate. 15 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen gets ready to go out after losing the first session to hydraulic problems. 14 min: Juan Pablo Montoya jumps to 5th place with a time of 1:12.299. 13 min: Nick Heidfeld moves into 8th place still behind his team-mate Kimi. 12 min: Juan Pablo Montoya on track. He is in 12th place. 11 min: Pedro de la Rosa improves in 15th with a time of 1:14.545. Nick Heidfeld goes off the track but recovers. 10 min: Top 10 - Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Coulthard, Barrichello, Trulli, Raikkonen, R Schumacher, Bernoldi, Panis and Verstappen. 9 min: David Coulthard improves in 3rd place with a time of 1:11.896. 8 min: Michael Schumacher goes off but recovers. 7 min: Jenson Button blows an engine! - That is the end of his session, he was back in 19th place. 6 min: Jarno Trulli jumps to 6th with a time of 1:12.555. 5 min: Michael Schumacher improves to second with a time of 1:11.798. 4 min: No improvements so far. 3 min: A BAR mechanic restarts his car and he continues. 3 min: Jacques Villeneuve stalls on the exit of the pits as he attempts a start with the aid of launch control. 2 min: There are dark clouds in the sky and it could rain any minute. Ralf Schumacher spins but recovers. 1 min: Several cars including Ralf Schumacher go out and practice starts at the exit of the pits. 1 min: Session underway as Enrique Bernoldi goes out on the track. The Arrows are looking good here. The best time from Friday last year has already been beaten by the top 13 drivers this morning. The pole position time of last year was 1:10.410, it will be interesting to see if this time is bettered today - Session starting in 2 minutes. Mika Hakkinen was very fast this morning despite his flu. Coulthard was second just under 0.3 seconds behind. McLaren could be very strong here. Rubens Barrichello was not too far behind and Michael Schumacher only covered 8 laps so we could see an interesting fight for the rest of the weekend.
