Schumacher wins the race after Mika
Hakkinen who was leading retires on the final lap with a car
failure. David Coulthard stalls at the formation lap and starts from the back of the field and finishes 5th. Juan Pablo Montoya capitalises on the failures ahead of him and finishes in 2nd. His first finish ever in a Formula 1 race. Jacques Villeneuve finishes third giving BAR their first ever podium finish and his first podium finish since '98. Rubens Barrichello retires with a suspension problem. Ralf Schumacher spins off 16 cars finish the race with BAR, McLaren (Hakkinen was classified 9th), Sauber, Prost, Minardi and Benetton finishing both of their cars. Only Jaguar fail to finish either of their cars |

Michael Schumacher struggles with his car following his second scheduled pits stop and drops from 1st to 5th. Ralf and Michael have their first on track battle. 16 cars finish the race with Ferrari, McLaren, Jordan, Jaguar, Benetton and Minardi finishing both of their cars. Only Arrows fail to finish either of their cars |
