Championship First Friday Practice Session Report - ResultsThe Ferrari duo of Michael Schumacher and Rubens
Barrichello started the Spanish Grand Prix weekend on a perfect note setting
the fastest times of the day with just 0.061 separating the two. They will be
pleased to put over half a second gap between them and their nearest contender
Felipe Massa who drives for Sauber but powered by a Ferrari engine. Williams were disappointing with Ralf Schumacher only managing 12th and Juan Pablo Montoya in 15th. As the teams do most of their testing at the Barcelona track
(with the exception of Ferrari), most teams have a clear idea of how to go
with regard to set-up and hence the times set by almost every driver didn't
improve dramatically. There were no major incidents during the session however Takuma Sato failed to complete a single lap as his car stopped just after exiting the pits on his installation lap while Alex Yoong and Felipe Massa both had trips across the gravel but recovered. Olivier Panis and Felipe Massa covered the most number of
laps with 19 laps each. They were followed by Ralf Schumacher with 18 laps and
Alex Yoong, Giancarlo Fisichella and Jacques Villeneuve with 17 laps each.
