Second Friday Practice Session Report - Results

Ferrari's domination wasn't absolute at the end of the first day of practice. Michael Schumacher did manage the fastest time of the day but only by 0.07 seconds ahead of Heinz Harald Frentzen in the Arrows (which most likely was set on a light fuel load). Jenson Button in the Renault would be a cause of concern for Ferrari (and McLaren and Williams for that matter) as he set the 3rd fastest time just 0.313 seconds behind Michael and his car would probably have a fair bit of fuel in it.
Rubens Barrichello was 4th after not improving on his time from the morning while Oliver Panis in the BAR was 5th ahead of the second Arrows of Enrique Bernoldi (both are suspect of running low fuel loads).
Kimi Raikkonen managed 7th ahead of Fisichella and Massa while Trulli round off the top 10.
Coulthard only managed 12th while the Williams duo of Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya only managed 15th and 17th fastest. Could they be in real trouble ?

At first look, one would worry but looking closely at the times, the whole field is very close with less than a second separating the top 14 cars and 2 seconds separating the top 19 cars. Williams usually keep some in reserve so they should be able to move into the top 10. But Pole they won't get.
As always, it is hard to read too much into the times set on Friday.
It is worth noting though that Michael's fastest time today was slower than the best time set here last year on the Friday practice.

The session had very few incidents with Trulli and Michael Schumacher running wide but recovering.

Michael Schumacher covered the most number of laps this session with 33 (45 overall) followed by Rubens Barrichello with 32 (42 overall) and Olivier Panis with 27 (46 overall). Ralf Schumacher only covered 10 (28 overall) while Irvine covered 14 (27 overall).

We'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out if those few surprises in the top 10 can remain there.
