First Saturday Practice Session Report - ResultsMichael Schumacher was in a class of
his own during the first practice session. He set a time 0.5 seconds
faster than his team-mate Rubens Barrichello in 2nd. The Williams pair
were in 3rd and 4th while the McLaren pair were in 5th and 6th! Behind the top 3 teams, Heidfeld in the Sauber was 7th ahead of Villeneuve in the BAR and Irvine in the Jaguar with Raikkonen in the second Sauber completing the top 10. It appears that on this track Jaguar have caught up with the pack of teams ahead of them (Sauber, Jordan and BAR). There were no major incidents during the session however Jenson Button failed to complete a single lap as his car failed on the exit of the pits on his installation lap while Ricardo Zonta stopped on the track also with some problem. Mika Hakkinen lost most of the session but managed to put in a few laps in the end. Olivier Panis and Pedro de la Rosa covered
the most number of laps with 14 ahead of Tarso Marques, Fernando Alonso
and Enrique Bernoldi with 13. Jenson Button failed to complete a single
lap while his team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella only managed 4 laps. Ricardo
Zonta only managed 5 while both Mika Hakkinen and Jos Verstappen only did
7 laps each. Michael Schumacher's time was the fastest
ever on this track (on this configuration - the fastest time ever at
Hockenheim was in 91 by Nigel Mansell with a time of 1:37.087 but the
circuit has changed since).
