Championship First Friday Practice Session Report - ResultsAnother domination by Ferrari with Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher over a second faster than anyone else. With the colder track conditions and the superb package Ferrari have, one wouldn't be surprised but expect the rest and particularly the Michelin runners to get closer as the temperatures are expected to move up over the weekend. Olivier Panis was a surprise 3rd, whether that is due to a
lighter fuel load or because this track suits him remains to be seen. Kimi
Raikkonen was the best running Michelin runner in 4th with Nick Heidfeld in
5th ahead of Montoya in 6th. As expected, the times set by team-mates will vary here as
this is a new track and some drivers are quicker to learn the track than
others. Most notably Panis was 3rd while Villeneuve was 12th. Raikkonen was
4th while Coulthard was 19th (although Coulthard had technical problems which
sidelined him for most of the session. Montoya was 6th while Ralf Schumacher
was 18th. A few drivers ran into problems during the session with de la Rosa stopping on the track with an engine problem, Villeneuve stopping on the track too while Coulthard was in the garage for most of the session. Giancarlo Fisichella had a scare as he went off into the gravel losing one of his car's barge boards but managed to recover. Olivier Panis covered the most number of laps with 31 followed by Alex Yoong with 26 and Nick Heidfeld with 25. David Coulthard covered the least number of laps with 6 while Pedro de la Rosa only managed 9 and Giancarlo Fisichella only did 13.
