First Saturday Practice Session Report - ResultsDespite going off and ending his session early, Michael Schumacher remained the fastest during the first Saturday practice session ahead of Heinz Harald Frentzen and Mika Hakkinen. Coulthard, Barrichello and Heidfeld make the top 6. It was a wet session with rain falling throughout the session. In such conditions a lot of drivers spun but managed to recover although Michael Schumacher wasn't so lucky and ended up stranded. Jacques Villeneuve didn't complete a timed lap as his car stopped on the installation lap. The Michelin runners were struggling for most of the session although the Williams pair and de la Rosa managed to set times comparable with some Bridgestone runners. Early in the session though all the Michelin runners were behind all the Bridgestone runners. The top 5 are separated by under 0.7
seconds then there is a huge gap of over 1.5 seconds between 5th and 6th
place. Enrique Bernoldi covered the most number of laps with 17 followed by Heinz Harald Frentzen with 16. Jacques Villeneuve failed to complete a single lap with Eddie Irvine and Michael Schumacher only managed 7 laps each. All other drivers covered between 10 and 16 laps. The weather forecasts more rain so expect a wet second practice and a wet qualifying!
