GP - 1st Saturday Practice:
Michael Schumacher sets the fastest time of the session ahead of Heinz Harald Frentzen and Mika Hakkinen. Coulthard, Barrichello, Heidfeld, Trulli, R Schumacher, Panis and Montoya make the top 10. 45 min: No improvements in the top 10. 44 min: Final run this session as some drivers try running on intermediates. 43 min: Burti improves and is now in 20th place! 42 min: Mika Hakkinen improves with a time of 1:31.849. 40 min: Eddie Irvine and Luciano Burti are struggling in 20 and 21st over 10 seconds off the pace. 39 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen moves into 2nd with a time of 1:31.803. Barrichello improves to 4th with a time of 1:32.128. 37 min: The Williams are now in the top 10 for the first time with Ralf in 9th and Montoya in 10th! 36 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Coulthard, Hakkinen, Frentzen, Barrichello, Trulli, Panis, Heidfeld, Verstappen and Bernoldi. 35 min: Trulli takes 6th place from Panis while Montoya moves to 11th place ahead of Raikkonen 34 min: Williams appear to be struggling with Juan Pablo Montoya in 14th and Ralf Schumacher in 16th! 33 min: Panis improves to 6th while Alesi improves again still in 12th place but just 4.76 seconds off the pace! 32 min: Bernoldi improves and retakes the 11th spot while Jean Alesi is now the best Michelin runner in 12th. His time is 5.75 seconds off the pace. 31 min: All the drivers have set timed laps except for Villeneuve who's car stopped on the track on his installation lap. 30 min: Fernando Alonso has moved into 11th ahead of Bernoldi. He is 7.32 seconds off the pace. 29 min: Michael Schumacher is off in the gravel. Session over for him. 28 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Coulthard, Hakkinen, Frentzen, Barrichello, Heidfeld, Panis, Trulli, Verstappen and Raikkonen. 27 min: Fernando Alonso in the Minardi is the best Michelin runner at this stage in 12th place. He is 9 seconds off the pace. 26 min: Michael Schumacher goes fastest with a time of 1:31.430 while Barrichello moves into 4th. 25 min: At this stage all the Bridgestone runners are ahead of the Michelin runners!. The best Michelin runner at this stage is Eddie Irvine who is 11.8 seconds off the pace! 24 min: Top 10 - Coulthard, Hakkinen, M Schumacher, Frentzen, Heidfeld, Verstappen, Raikkonen, Panis, Barrichello and Trulli. 23 min: David Coulthard moves into 1st with a time of 1:32.014. 23 min: Michael Schumacher jumps straight into 2nd place behind Hakkinen with a time of 1:32.203, just 0.007 seconds behind! 22 min: Nick Heidfeld retakes third with a time of 1:35.635. 22 min: Heinz Harald Frentzen goes third with a time of 1:35.962. 21 min: Nick Heidfeld goes 3rd with a time of 1:37.045. That is 4.85 seconds slower than Hakkinen! 21 min: Mika Hakkinen takes 1st from Coulthard with a 1:32.196. 20 min: Coulthard improves in 1st with a time of 1:33.452. 19 min: Top 6 - Coulthard, Hakkinen, Bernoldi, Irvine, R Schumacher and de la Rosa. 19 min: A number of drivers have gone out but went back into the pits! 18 min: David Coulthard goes fastest with a time of 1:36.185. 17 min: Mika Hakkinen goes fastest with a time of 1:36.766. 16 min: Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard are on the track. Marques sets a 2:.09.123! 15 min: Enrique Bernoldi improves to 1:39.803. Irvine sets a relatively slow lap with a 1:51.201. 14 min: Tarso Marques and Eddie Irvine are also on the track. 13 min: Enrique Bernoldi sets a time of 1:40.509. Verstappen is on his first time lap. 11 min: Enrique Bernoldi is the first to go out for his timed run. 9 min: Jacques Villeneuve stops on the track as he exists the pits! Session over for him. 7 min: The cars are tip-toeing their way on the track as the drivers try to find out where the standing water is. No one has set a timed lap yet. 5 min: It will be interesting to see how the Michelin runners will do under these conditions. The expectation is that the Michelin tyres don't like cold and wet conditions! 3 min: The track is so wet that the cars are spraying a huge amount of water behind them. 1 min: The cars are out on wet tyres for their installation lap. Session underway, the track is wet from overnight rain and is has started to rain again! Rain is expected during practice and qualifying today and during the race tomorrow. If it does rain through qualifying it will be the first this season. Qualifying under wet conditions usually produces unpredictable results. Session starting in 5 minutes. Practice yesterday was dominated in the first session by Michael Schumacher while in the second session the McLaren duo set the pace.
