First Friday Practice Session Report - ResultsMichael Schumacher looks determined
to grab his first pole position ever at Silverstone after putting a
stunning lap in the first Friday practice with a time of 1:23.619. He was
0.786 seconds faster than his team-mate Rubens Barrichello with Mika
Hakkinen and David Coulthard making the top 4. Unusually Michael Schumacher was the first
to set a timed lap this session possibly due to the lack of testing
Ferrari do on this track compared to the British based teams. He also
covered 21 laps this session only second to Eddie Irvine who covered 23. The Michelin runners appear to be struggling here with only Irvine (who could be on a lighter fuel load) in the top 10 while even the Williams are outside the top 10. Eddie Irvine covered the most number of laps with 23 followed by Michael Schumacher with 21. Pedro de la Rosa didn't cover any laps while Giancarlo Fisichella only managed 5 laps and Luciano Burti covered 13. Most other drivers covered between 15 and 20 laps each. The session was run under cloudy but dry conditions with an air temperature of 18 degrees.
