The British GP:

For the 8th time this season Michael Schumacher grabbed pole. This was his first pole position at Silverstone and needing just two victories to seal the championship, Michael had a reason to feel smug especially so as his biggest title rival David Coulthard was out-qualified by his team-mate Mika Hakkinen. Coulthard qualified third just ahead of Jarno Trulli in a Jordan. Heinz-Harald Frentzen qualified ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in a Sauber. Surprisingly though, the two Williams could only qualify in 8th and 10th place with Juan Pablo Montoya out-qualifying his team-mate Ralf Schumacher. 

50 years ago Ferrari had triumphed for the first time in F1 at this very circuit so Michael and Rubens had another reason to go for a victory. All the cars got off to a clean start on the formation lap. At GO the cars made a clean getaway with Montoya making a superb start jumping from 8th to 3rd. At the first corner though Coulthard came together with Trulli and while the latter finished up in the gravel trap Coulthard spun into the exit of the pit-lane and rejoined just ahead of Fernando Alonso. Hakkinen and Schumacher made clean starts and soon separated themselves from the rest of the field lead by Montoya. Hakkinen who looked fast from the start capitalised on a mistake made by Michael on lap 5 to take over lead in the race for the first time since race 5 in Spain. Coulthard meanwhile retired due to a suspension failure that could have been caused by his contact with Trulli. 
The Scots championship hopes look finished now. Hakkinen starts to open a gap over Michael who is being challenged by Montoya only to be overtaken by the Colombian on lap 16. Soon Montoya is opening a gap between him and Michael. Both Montoya and Hakkinen look to be on a two stop strategy while Michael is on a single stop. Hakkinen pits on lap 23 and comes out just ahead of Montoya but regains the lead when the latter pits a few laps after. Michael is yet to pit. The race goes on with Hakkinen setting blistering lap times and constantly smashing the lap record. The Finn makes his second stop as on the same lap as Michael makes his first and only stop and the former keeps the lead. Ralf has meanwhile retired due to an engine failure.
The race order now, Hakkinen, Michael, Barrichello, Montoya and then Raikkonen and Heidfeld in the two Saubers. Hakkinen didn't slow down till the very last corner of the last lap. But nothing went wrong for him this time as he won his first race in 11 months. He had gone 15 races without a win! It was an emotional Mika who took the top step on the podium. Michael finished second for the fourth time this season ahead of Barrichello, Montoya, Raikkonen and Heidfeld. 

So Mika finally wins. Michael further strengthens his hold on the championship and it looks like a double for Ferrari. Coulthard could have won but he paid for his own mistake. Ralf has lost third place to Barrichello who keeps up his consistency in the points. Montoya is a great find as is Raikkonen who continues to impress with his superb performances. Heidfeld is enjoying points finishes too. But let us all applaud Mika Hakkinen's superb performance. He showed his true brilliance. Something that he hasn't shown much of this season. Well done Mika!!!!!

The next race is the German GP at Hockenheim. It will be a race to watch!
