both new to the track. Jenson Button also suffered problems and only
managed to set a time 9 seconds off the pace. His team-mate Giancarlo
Fisichella was 15th. Jean Alesi and Tarso Marques covered the most number of laps with 20. Burti was next with 19 laps. Alonso and Montoya only covered the installation lap. Bernoldi and Verstappen covered 6, Button and Fisichella covered 8. Most drivers covered between 11 and 15 laps. The lap times during the session remained within last year's times until 10 minutes from the end when Michael Schumacher went slightly faster and then Rubens Barrichello went more than 0.7 seconds faster than last year. The top 3 times are faster than last year indicating that unlike Melbourne, the lap times are not going be much faster than last year.
