First Friday Practice Session Report - ResultsMichael Schumacher set the fastest time of the session ahead of David Coulthard and Rubens Barrichello. Nick Heidfeld, Mika Hakkinen and Jenson Button make the top 6. The session started 10 minutes early so
that it ends before the 3-minute silence at 12:00 PM in Europe in respect
to those killed in the terrorist attacks on the USA on Tuesday. The Ferrari's look strong and so does the McLarens, the Saubers and the Benettons. However the fastest time this session was actually slower than the fastest time set on the 1st Friday practice of last year. Williams were surprisingly slow with Ralf Schumacher in 8th and Juan Pablo Montoya in 16th place!. A number of cars crashed during the session including the 2 Saubers of Raikkonen and Heidfeld. Jos Verstappen also crashed early in the session. Newcomer Alex Yoong stopped on the track after completing just 8 laps. Toms Enge who is taking Burti's place was 20th fastest. Irvine, Fisichella and Trulli covered the most number of laps with 22 while Verstappen only managed 3 laps before crashing, Raikkonen only managed 4 laps before his crash and Yoong had only covered 8 laps before his car stopped on the track. The top 5 are separated by a second, the top 13 by 2 seconds while the top 19 are separated by 3 seconds. It is Friday practice though! The session was run under dry but cloudy conditions with an average air temperature of 17 degrees.
