Championship First Saturday Practice Session Report - ResultsMichael Schumacher set a stunning lap time over half
a second ahead of his team-mate Rubens Barrichello. Kimi Raikkonen was 3rd
just under 0.7 seconds behind while David Coulthard was 4th and over 1.2
seconds off the pace. The Bridgestone and Michelin runners appear equally matched under the conditions which were mild. The conditions are expected to warm-up in the second session and in qualifying and the Michelins are expected to have an advantage then. There were no major incidents during the session and only a
few drivers had moments. A number of drivers failed to set times faster than their times from yesterday. Those who were thought to have set times on lighter fuel loads yesterday failed to improve on them this morning. Those were the 2 Jaguars and the 2 Toyotas. Alex Yoong covered the most number of laps with 21 followed by Takuma Sato with 19. Mark Webber only managed 4 laps while the 2 Ferrari drivers just did 7 laps each. With the air and track temperatures expected to move higher and the fuel loads moving lower, we may get a better idea of how close qualifying will be!
