Second Friday Practice Session Report - Results

Just over a tenth of a second separates the top 4. 2 Ferraris (Rubens and Michael), a Williams (Montoya) and a McLaren (Raikkonen). We have a fight for Pole afterall!.
It appears that the Michelin runners found that missing grip as they managed to take 6 of the top 10 positions.
Behind the top 4 there are a number of drivers who are usually further back indicating they are running lighter fuel loads. Allan McNish in 5th, Enrique Bernoldi in 6th, Pedro de la Rosa in 7th and Olivier Panis in 8th. I guess we'll see their true pace tomorrow.
While it is hard to gauge any performance issues from Friday practice, it appears that Renault (Button - 14th and Trulli 17th) are struggling and so is Villeneuve who ended a disappointing 21st place.
Both Sauber's (although only Heidfeld had his session cut short) and Fisichella failed to improve on their times from the 1st session.

The session was filled with incidents as the drivers struggled for grip. Almost every driver went wide, had an off or a spin. Only Giancarlo Fisichella ended his session early as a result of a spin into the gravel, the rest all managed to recover. Nick Heidfeld also had his session cut short by a mechanical problem with his car.

The top 6 times from today are faster than the best time set here on Friday of last year while Rubens Barrichello's time is just under a second slower than the Pole time of last year.

Olivier Panis covered the most number of laps with 35 followed by Mika Salo with 33. Giancarlo Fisichella and Nick Heidfeld only managed 8 laps each. All other drivers covered between 15 and 29 laps. Overall Olivier Panis covered the most number of laps with a massive 66 laps while Fisichella only managed 26.
