Another Alonso - Schumacher duel ?
The Silverstone
circuit (layout) is a
high speed circuit with a number of high speed corners. The lap however ends with a series of low speed corners. The teams setup the
cars with emphasis on the high speed sections. The weather is always unpredictable at Silverstone. Current forecasts show a dry weekend but even if we do have a dry weekend, the strong winds affect and could disturb the cars. Most of the teams conducted testing at Barcelona last week and Ferrari we strong setting a new lap record at the track for a V8 engine. Renault were also fast. Teams and Drivers to watch: Renault are the favourites going into this race. It is a track that shares some characteristics with Barcelona and they won there. Alonso will be strong and is on a roll. He scored his 13th consecutive podium at Monaco. Fisichella should also be strong here. If he has a perfect weekend then a podium finish is likely. Ferrari are certainly improving quickly and on certain track on par
with Renault. The tyre advantage continues to swing between Michelin and Bridgestone and if Bridgestone have the edge they could
win. McLaren were strong in Monaco but that won't mean much here. They were way behind in Spain and the improvement they've made since then would help but not by much. Montoya won here last year but he'll be lucky if he finishes on the podium. Same can be said for Raikkonen. Honda will be stronger than what they showed in Monaco but don't expect miracles. Button was off the pace in Monaco and that wasn't a good sign. Barrichello on the other hand had a good race given the car and if he out-races Button here, it could be a turning point. BMW Sauber were expected to be strong in Monaco but weren't. Heidfeld finished in the points thanks to the high attrition. Points will be difficult for Heidfeld and Villeneuve here. Williams had a real chance for a podium finish but car failure prevented Webber from that. They'll struggle at Silverstone and a point or two would be the best they can hope for (unless there is drama in front!). Toyota's new car didn't impress at Monaco. Trulli was on his way to a podium finish but his car failed him. Given the new car, they could do well but that is unlikely given the management changes at the team. Like Williams, they'll be happy with a few points. Red Bull surprised many with a podium finish. Sure it was mainly due to the high attrition rate but the car was strong and sadly only 1 car finished. They'll struggle on this track and points will be very difficult! Toro Rosso and MF1 Racing will be fighting at the back. Points almost impossible! Super Aguri will find it hard to stay with Toro Rosso and MF1 Racing.
