Second Friday Practice Session Report - Results

Kimi Raikkonen sets the fastest time of the session almost half a second ahead of team-mate David Coulthard. Rubens Barrichello was 3rd but over a second off Raikkonen's pace. The pace of the McLarens though seems to have been set on a light fuel load. In addition the Michelin runners do appear to have a big advantage here with just 3 cars out of the top 10 on Bridgestones.
Juan Pablo Montoya managed 4th fastest ahead of his team-mate Ralf Schumacher while Michael Schumacher failed to improve on his time after being sidelined for most of the session with what appears to be a problem with his car.
Behind the top 3 teams, Eddie Irvine managed 7th and was only fractionally slower than Michael's time with Pedro de la Rosa finishing the session 8th fastest. Jarno Trulli was 9th ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella in 10th.

The top 3 are separated by 1.17 seconds, the top 7 by 1.958 seconds and a second separates 8th and 15th.

Juan Pablo Montoya crashed his cars into the barrier with 5 minutes remaining in the session while Alex Yoong had his session end early due to a fire at the back of his car.

Ralf Schumacher covered the most number of laps this session with 28 followed by Mika Salo, Juan Pablo Montoya and Allan McNish all with 26 laps each. Michael Schumacher covered just 3 laps while Jacques Villeneuve only managed 7 laps.

Overall today, Takuma Sato covered the most number of laps with 45 while Villeneuve covered the least with 11 laps.

Will McLaren be able to keep up this blistering pace ? We'll see tomorrow when it really counts.
