First Friday Practice Session Report - ResultsMichael Schumacher sets the fastest time of the session ahead of Mika Hakkinen and Juan Pablo Montoya. Rubens Barrichello, Jean Alesi and David Coulthard make the top 6. Michael's time was over a second faster than the best time set on the 1st Friday practice last year. Mika Hakkinen was 0.355 seconds behind Michael with Juan Pablo Montoya putting a stunning few laps towards the end of the session to set the third fastest time just over half a second off Michael's best time. Other impressive times came from Jean Alesi
who ended up with the 5th fastest time and the best Honda runner, his
team-mate Trulli was 13th. Frentzen set the 8th fastest time while his
team-mate Tomas Enge suffered a big crash at the end of the session. He
ended up in 20th place. Enge was OK. Apart from Enge's accident, there were no major incidents during the session. Eddie Irvine, Pedro de la Rosa and Juan Pablo Montoya covered the most number of laps with 20 each while Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard and Nick Heidfeld covered the least with 12 laps each. The session was run under dry conditions with an air temperature of 21 degrees.
