Second Friday Practice Session Report - ResultsDavid Coulthard set the fastest time of the day ahead of Eddie Irvine and Jacques Villeneuve. Mika Hakkinen, Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya make the top 6. Michael Schumacher was 7th. It appears that the teams were running different programs similar to what we saw at the European GP a week ago. Coulthard's fastest lap was almost 0.7 seconds faster than the pole time of last year. Eddie Irvine in 2nd was only 0.2 seconds behind Coulthard despite not completing a single timed lap in the morning session while Villeneuve is 3rd and just under 0.3 seconds off the pace. It is more likely that these 3 were running lighter fuel loads than the rest of the top 10 but that will be proved in qualifying tomorrow. A number of cars suffered problems, first it was Verstappen who suffered an engine failure. Interestingly enough the team gave him Bernoldi's car to do a few laps before the end of the session. Olivier Panis spun and stayed in the gravel early into the session while Kimi Raikkonen had a scary moment when his rear wing failed and went into the gravel but managed to keep away from the barriers. 0.5 seconds cover the top 4 while a second covers the top 7 with 2 seconds cover the top 14. Jarno Trulli covered the most number of laps with 34 followed by Michael Schumacher with 32 and Rubens Barrichello with 30. Panis covered the least number of laps with 5 after spinning into the gravel while Enrique Bernoldi covered 7 laps after having to hand his car to Jos Verstappen. Kimi Raikkonen only managed 11 laps.
We'll just have to wait and see who improves the most tomorrow.
