Results 20-June: Most of the Formula 1 teams will be conducting a 3 day test session at Magny Cours from the 21st to the 23rd of this month. This is in preparation for the French Grand Prix at the same track on the 2nd of July. Stay tuned for all the latest results. Pedro Diniz has been found at fault for the accident he had with Pedro de la Rosa. The stewards have reviewed the incident and found that Diniz was at fault and added 25 seconds to his overall race time. Jacques Villeneuve was also found at fault for the accident he had with Ralf Schumacher. 25 seconds were added to his race time but since he retired he was also reprimanded. Eddie Irvine stalled at the start of the Canadian Grand Prix due to a clutch problem. He rejoined the race 2 laps down. Jaguar have been struggling with clutch problems since the start of the season, before the Canadian GP however, Eddie Irvine indicated that he was happy with the new clutch and now he can start better and even gain some places. It was completely the opposite. Gary Anderson, Jaguar's technical director indicated that they thought they have sorted out the clutch problems and it was very disappointing to have clutch problems yet again. 19-June: Rubens Barrichello who finished along side his teammate Michael Schumacher at the Canadian GP has indicated that Ross Brawn asked him not to put pressure on Michael Schumacher towards the final stages of the race. He said "I respect the team very much, I respect Ross above all and he asked me today not to force Michael into an error or a mistake." Mika Hakkinen believes that Jacques Villeneuve and the rain have cost him a podium position at the Canadian GP. He explained by indicating that at the start when Jacques Villeneuve manage to get next to him he decided to play it safe and ease off rather than end up in the gravel. This resulted in him being stuck behind Villeneuve for a number of laps. When he finally managed to pass him he managed to clock the fastest lap of the race however soon after it started to rain and he had to make two pit stops one for dry tyres just before the rain and one after for wets. These two factors have lost him the chance for a podium finish. 'Has Mika Hakkinen lost interest? ' is the topic for this week. Have Your Say 18-June: David Coulthard has admitted that he has stalled on the grid causing his mechanics to stay on the grid longer than the time allowed while restarting his car. The race stewards gave David a stop and go penalty as a result and while David Coulthard indicated that he has no problem with this rule, race stewards should apply common sense as he did not gain an advantage from the situation and the penalty has robbed the fans from a real race as he believes that he was quicker than Michael Schumacher. As for the incident with Alexander Wurz, Coulthard admitted that it was his mistake as he didn't see Wurz from the spray. Jacques Villeneuve who outbraked himself while attempting to pass David Coulthard 5 laps from the end and crashed into Ralf Schumacher has immediately apologised to Ralf Schumacher for the incident. Ralf understood the situation and considers it a racing incident. Both were outside the points when the accident occurred. Villeneuve blamed a breakdown in communication which caused the team to fit dry tyres rather than wet ones and that has caused him to make an additional pit stop giving him virtually no chance of scoring points. Pedro Diniz and Pedro de la Rosa touched during the race forcing Pedro de la Rosa into the armco and retiring. Pedro Diniz blamed Pedro de la Rosa for the incident and said "he (de la Rosa) had made a mistake and I was side by side with him. I just took my normal racing line, and he kept going. I think he would have been wiser to have backed off". Meanwhile Pedro de la Rosa blamed Pedro Diniz for it and said :"I think it's better for everyone to watch it on TV because I don't think he saw me and he didn't leave me anywhere to go. I was next to him and he pushed me onto the grass and then I hit the armco so I think it was a very dangerous move from him." 18-June: At the post race press conference, Michael Schumacher indicates that he was not pressured from David Coulthard as he had a guess that David would be penalised. He also indicated that following David's stop and go he eased a bit as his car appeared to have a problem and that was also the reason for pitting early as they adjusted the brake balance on his car. He thanked the team and Rubens Barrichello in particular for protecting him towards the end as Michael was being cautious and did not push. Rubens Barrichello indicated that he had a good start but Villeneuve had a blistering start and Rubens had to let him past. Rubens felt that it would have been easier for him to overtake Villeneuve rather than Hakkinen but he only managed to do so when it started to rain. Rubens added that had he put on wet tyres when he made his first pit stop he would have won the race but it was not to be. Giancarlo Fisichella indicated that they had planned a late pit stop and that came just in time to put on wet tyres rather than dry ones and that allowed him to make just one stop and pass all the drivers ahead of him except for the 2 Ferrari drivers. He also indicated that the conditions were difficult for him when it was wet due to the lack of downforce and that was why he went off twice which allowed Mika Hakkinen to catch up towards the end of the race. 18-June: Canadian Grand Prix Result: Michael Schumacher wins from pole ahead of Rubens Barrichello and Giancarlo Fisichella. Mika Hakkinen, Jos Verstappen and Jarno Trulli make the top 6 ... Full Report ... Timed Results. 18-June: Michael Schumacher sets the fastest time during the warmup session for the Canadian GP ahead of teammate Rubens Barrichello and Mika Hakkinen. David Coulthard, Jarno Trulli and Pedro de la Rosa make the top 6. The session started with all drivers going out on their installation laps with the exception of Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button. Ricardo Zonta doesn't finish his outlap as he suffers a blown engine. 10 minutes into the session and it is Pedro de la Rosa ahead of Jos Verstappen and Ralf Schumacher. Jacques Villeneuve, Jarno Trulli and Gaston Mazzacane make the top 6. Soon after the top 4 take over and David Coulthard and Rubens Barrichello exchange fastest laps. Pedro Diniz spins and hits the wall damaging his car. Jenson Button has yet to set a time. Order after 20 minutes: David Coulthard, Rubens Barrichello, Michael Schumacher, Jacques Villeneuve, Jarno Trulli and Mika Hakkinen. Jean Alesi loses a part of his rear wing while Jenson Button finally puts in a timed lap. Jacques Villeneuve spins but recovers. Fastest laps are exchanged between the top 4 but it is the Ferraris that end up fastest almost 1 second ahead of the McLarens. Different strategies perhaps ? Final Order: Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello, Mika Hakkinen, David Coulthard, Jarno Trulli and Pedro de la Rosa ... Timed Results. 17-June: At the post qualifying press conference, Michael Schumacher indicated that he always tries to go out at the last possible moment as the track is fastest but that is not done on purpose. On which driver at McLaren he fears most, he indicated that Mika Hakkinen seemed to have the upper hand in the past 2 season but this year David Coulthard is getting better and he will have to keep an eye on him as well. When asked if he thinks about the fact that no one has won from pole position in the last 12 races, Michael Schumacher indicated that it does come to mind but it is not something that he will be thinking about when he starts tomorrow. He added that he will be hoping that he will be lucky and break the pole jinx in the 13 attempt. David Coulthard indicated that being on
the front row is good but having pole is better despite the pole jinx. However, it is all
about who wins the race. Rubens Barrichello felt unlucky during the session as he was on a quick lap when the session was stopped and towards the end he ran into a lot of traffic. He thought that he had a chance at pole but he is happy to see a Ferrari 1-3 on the grid. 17-June: Canadian GP - Qualifying: Michael Schumacher on pole position for the Canadian GP ahead of David Coulthard and Rubens Barrichello. Timed Results. 17-June: Despite not setting a timed lap in the first session, David Coulthard sets the fastest time in the 2nd practice session for Saturday ahead of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. Timed Results. 16-June: At the Friday press conference, Ron Dennis believes that David Coulthard has raised his game and that he has moved a step up. Dennis also believes that it is a big advantage to have 2 top drivers competing with each other and that will maximise the points for McLaren. He also believes that it is very hard to differentiate between Ferrari and McLaren this year and that any advantage one team has over the other will keep swinging as the season progresses. Jean Todt dismissed reports that Michael Schumacher's suspension failure in Monaco was caused by Schumacher hitting a barrier. He indicated that both cars had exhaust problems and Michael was unfortunate that his exhaust broke into 2 pieces releasing gases at temperatures the suspension couldn't stand. Commenting on Rubens Barrichello's performance so far, Todt indicated that the team is very happy with him and they realise that Ferrari is not an easy team for a new driver and having Michael Schumacher as a teammate does not make life easy for Rubens. He also added that the only way to support Barrichello is to give him a competitive car. Eddie Jordan made it clear that he is looking for a major car manufacturer to partner with. Despite all the success Jordan had with the Mugen Honda engines, Eddie Jordan believes that the best way forward is with a major manufacturer and Mugen Honda is aware of the situation. (Honda have indicated earlier that they are happy with their relationship with BAR and are not interested in supplying engines to another team.) On the reliability side, Eddie Jordan indicated that they had to make hard decisions on the way forward. They tried to lighten as many parts as possible in order to lift their game but in the process some things got missed. He believes that the situation is now under control and the car is very competitive as we saw in Monaco. Eddie Jordan believes that they are now developing a few ideas that should make them even more competitive and take on the two leading teams. He ended by saying "It isn't healthy for F1 to have two teams flying away and making the rest of us look like fools." Craig Pollock is more pleased with the performance of the BAR here compared to Monaco. He added that in Monaco they never found the right setup and went completely the wrong way. He didn't accept all the blame to be on the car in Monaco though and he put some blame on Jacques Villeneuve as he was not working brilliantly well with his engineer and that he was under pressure. Pollock believes that they expect to struggle in a couple more circuits but he believes they will be strong on the low downforce circuits. As for the continuing rumours regarding Jacques Villeneuve and even himself, Craig indicated that there have been rumours since the team was created and that they have learned the hard way but in the end they have to keep their heads down and work through it. Eddie Irvine indicated his relief to have finally scored points for the Jaguar team but the biggest relief was to have a new clutch that allows them a better start. He indicated that they have been losing positions at the start due to the clutch but now with the new clutch he expects to make up a few positions and get more finishes in the points. Jenson Button believes that the Montreal circuit is a difficult one to learn and that braking into the chicanes and the hairpin are the most difficult aspect. As for his position next year, Jenson is hoping to influence that by the way he performs and realises that he needs to do a good job if he is to retain his seat. For now though he is concentrating on the job at hand and doing the best he can. 16-June: Canadian GP: David Coulthard sets the fastest time in the second practice session only 0.009 seconds ahead of Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello. Timed Results. 16-June: Canadian GP: Michael Schumacher sets the fastest time for the first practice session just 0.094 seconds ahead of teammate Rubens Barrichello. David Coulthard was 3rd ahead of his teammate Mika Hakkinen while the Jaguar pair of Eddie Irvine and Johnny Herbert make the top 6. Ralf Schumacher failed to set a timed lap ... Full Report ... Timed Results. 15-June: At the Thursday press conference, Rubens Barrichello indicated that they have had a positive test at Monza and that he is optimistic of his chances here. When asked why he is unable to match Michael Schumacher, he relied by indicating that at Monaco he chose the wrong decision in qualifying and the result was 0.9 seconds slower than Michael. He also blamed the fact that he is still new to the team. David Coulthard indicated that he has mixed feelings at this circuit as he has only finished here twice but he scored his first ever points here. David does not believe that he has changed his attitude but having a reliable car has enabled him to challenge for the championship. He indicated that he had a single failure and a disqualified from the Brazilian GP results but he has finished on the podium in all the other 5 races so far. Jacques Villeneuve indicated that although they produced a good result early in the season, things went downhill but believes that the worst track for the BAR is behind them and that this circuit suites them a lot better. Once again he complained about the lack of downforce and how the car seems very slow when they need to put downforce into it. As for his plans for next year, he pointed out that his job at the moment is to concentrate on getting the car quick enough to get some results but there will be a point when he will have to make a decision about next year but that point has not yet arrived as he does not yet have all the cards in his hand. He also indicated that he will be trying to make the best decision for his future. Jacques also commented on the chicane that saw 3 world champions hit the wall here last year and indicated that it is a very quick but tight chicane and if you miss it even by a few inches you hit the wall. He also indicated that there was a lot of dust thrown on the track from the apex which will not happen this year but accidents will still happen there until the corner is changed. Ricardo Zonta indicated that while testing at Monza and while he was on the back straight, something broke in the left front of the car and then he just crashed. He couldn't do anything and believes that is he just unlucky. As for how these high speed crashed affect his confidence, he indicated that he continued testing the next day and was fast although when on the straight he wouldn't know whether he'll be safe or something will break again. Jarno Trulli believes that he is missing good luck as he has lost about 15 points due to reliability and that is frustrating. He added that he never expected it to be such a bad year in terms of reliability. Trulli is also hoping to have a clean start and a good race contrary to what happened twice in the last 3 years when he collided with Jean Alesi on both occasions. 15-June: Ralf Schumacher is set to participate in the Canadian Grand Prix. The Williams team have announced that Ralf Schumacher is fit enough to race. Williams test driver Bruno Junqueira will be on standby just in case. The Formula 1 regulations allow a change of driver up until before the qualifying session if agreed by the race stewards. Michael Schumacher expects a much tougher battle with McLaren this weekend compared with Monaco where he was leading by 30 seconds before his car's suspension broke. He admitted that having 10 points from Monaco would have been great to his title chances but in Formula 1, nothing is sure until the last race of the season. "With 10 more races to go we still have a lot of work to go before I start thinking about the championship title." Schumacher added. Appearing on the David Letterman show, David Coulthard has indicated that he would like to drive in the CART series sometime in the future. He added that part of his heart is in America as his fiancée is American. Coulthard also admitted that Michael Schumacher is a nice guy, a family man and is concerned about safety but on the track he does not give an inch and that is fair enough. 14-June: Jacques Villeneuve could only confirm that he will definitely be driving in Formula 1 next year but he is still undecided about which team he will be driving for. Villeneuve has confirmed that he had talks with McLaren and Benetton but the most serious talks are with his current team BAR. Williams will announce their driver line-up for the Canadian Grand Prix on Thursday. It is still unclear whether Ralf Schumacher will be able to race at Montreal. The Williams team need Ralf Schumacher's skill here in Canada but the final decision will depend on how Ralf feels and if Professor Sid Watkins, the official Formula 1 Medical Doctor gives him the all clear. Bruno Junqueira, the Williams test driver is on standby in Montreal if required. 13-June: "Pull your socks up, Michael!" is the title of the 16th issue from the Diagnosis and Prognosis Series for the 2000 season. In this issue, the Heretic looks at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix - Check it out here !! 13-June: Mark Blundell who drove in Formula 1 and now drives in the CART series believes that Juan Pablo Montoya is an exceptional talent that only comes along once in a while. Having raced in both championship's, he considers Montoya to be in the same league as Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna. Blundell praised Jenson Button who could be replaced by Montoya at Williams and said that he has done a great job but as far as achievements are concerned, he does not even come close to Montoya. Following the departure of Alan Jenkins from Prost, rumours have indicated that he is heading to Jordan as a replacement for Mike Gascoyne who is leaving to Renault.
