8-July: Michael Schumacher and Luca Badoer were present today at the Fiorano track. Luca Badoer shook down the 3 F1-2000 cars that will be used in the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix. He completed a total of 27 laps with a best time of 1:01.919. Badoer also practiced a number of pit stops. Michael Schumacher concentrated on engine testing and completed a total of 16 laps with a best time of 1:02.352 ... Timed Results. Craig Pollock BAR's managing director and Jacques Villeneuve have taken a mini break following the Silverstone test session to discuss the future of Jacques Villeneuve with the team. Villeneuve had expressed his dissatisfaction with the way BAR are conducting the negotiations with him. Craig Pollock who is a close friend of Villeneuve has now stepped it to try and convince the French Canadian to stay by explaining to him how things will change for the better next year. 7-July: For the fourth day in a row, Olivier Panis sets the fastest time at Mugello with a time of 1:25.182 and a total of 91 laps. Michael Schumacher was 2nd fastest with a time of 1:25.499 and total of 114 laps. Luca Badoer was testing for Ferrari at Fiorano setting a best time of 1:02.561 and covering a total of 64 laps. Both Michael Schumacher and Luca Badoer will continue testing at Fiorano tomorrow ... Timed Results. Ralf Schumacher sets the fastest time at the Estoril circuit with a best time of 1:21.103 covering 65 laps. The BAR team was also present at the circuit with both Ricardo Zonta and Darren Manning ... Timed Results. 6-July: Olivier Panis sets the fastest time on the 3rd day of testing at Mugello slightly faster than Michael Schumacher. Panis did the most number of laps as well covering 105 laps while Michael Schumacher did close to a 100 laps. David Coulthard only covered 28 laps and was the slowest of the 4 drivers. Michael Schumacher will continue testing here tomorrow while Badoer moves back to Fiorano ... Timed Results. Jos Verstappen was the fastest man on the
track on the final day of testing at Silverstone more than a second faster than second
place Eddie Irvine. Jenson Button completed a total of 72 laps on the second day of testing at Estoril setting a best time of 1:22.612. Ralf Schumacher took over in the afternoon and managed to complete 15 laps and a best time of 1:24.023. There were no problems reported during the test ... Panis sets the fastest time again at Mugello more than a second faster than
Ferrari's test driver Luca Badoer. Panis set a best time of 1:25.966 which is just over a
second slower than the lap record set by Michael Schumacher here this year. Eddie Irvine set the fastest time on the
second day at Silverstone ahead of Jos Verstappen and Alexander Wurz. It was a wet session
in the morning but the track dried out after lunch time. Since 1997, no Formula 1 car has run on the Estoril circuit until today when Jenson Button drove 54 laps in the Williams BMW. This is the first of a three day test session planned by the Williams team. Button described the circuit as very slippery and dusty off the line as it is a newly rebuilt circuit with no running at all. Button clocked a best time of 1:23.727. Button continues testing here tomorrow while Ralf Schumacher takes over on Friday. For comparison purposes, the last time an F1 race was held here was in 1996 and the pole position time was 1:20.330 set by Damon Hill in a Williams Renault ... Timed Results. 4-July:
For the first time ever, McLaren and Ferrari test
together at a Ferrari track with Olivier Panis and Luca Badoer in action. Olivier Panis
set the fastest time of the day with a time of 1:27.370 more than a full second ahead of
Luca Badoer. The best time set here this year was by Michael Schumacher with a time of
1:24.705 Heinz Harald Frentzen has set the fastest
time at Silverstone ahead of Pedro Diniz and Johnny Herbert. The session start was until
the afternoon due to fog. 4-July: David Coulthard and Michael Schumacher
are set to talk about the incident they had at the French Grand Prix when David Coulthard
attempted to pass Michael Schumacher but couldn't claiming that the German is not sporting
in the way he drives. David Coulthard later apologised for making unsporty gestures toward
the German driver. Ferrari indicated that this has been the first time a Ferrari has suffered an engine failure since San Marino in 1999 with Eddie Irvine driving. The initial examination is that the failure was sudden due to a violent drop in pressure and the propulsor gave way. They believe that the cause was due to an internal component breakdown. Further investigations will be carried out this week. In addition, the team will be analysing the cause of tyre problems suffered during the race. Most of the Formula 1 teams will be testing at Silverstone with the exception of Ferrari and McLaren who will both be testing at Mugello in Italy together!. Michael Schumacher and Luca Badoer will be testing for Ferrari while David Coulthard and Olivier Panis for McLaren. The Williams team will go to the Estoril circuit in Portugal for their test. Testing commences on Tuesday the 4th of July in preparation for the Austrian Grand Prix on the 16th of July. Have Your Say 3-July: When Jacques Villeneuve was asked how does he manage to continue doing brilliant starts he said "I don't know, and I don't want to know, when something so complicated is working well, you don't want to think about the details, you just do it, again and again. In fact, there are a few little tricks and tweaks, but I'm keeping them to myself in case one of my rivals hears about it". Out of 9 races so far, Villeneuve has managed to gain 2 or more positions at the start in 6 of them. Ralf Schumacher indicated that after having lost 2 places at the start to Jacques Villeneuve and Heinz Harald Frentzen, he was pleased to add two more points for the team. He added that he found it impossible to pass Frentzen on the track so working with team he managed to pass him through the pits. Jarno Trulli has describes the race as difficult as the Jordan struggled with grip under the hot conditions once the tyres started to wear. Heinz Harald Frentzen also complained about his car describing as "almost undriveable" but he also added that he was upset with his teammate when they touched wheels bending the track rod on his car as Trulli was trying to overtake him. He said "This made the race even more difficult for me. It was not the first time since the beginning of the season that Jarno did something like that. After such a race the only thing you can do is look forward to the next race where we will have some modifications to the car and a new engine specification. |
