Rubens Barrichello wins another exciting race ahead of team-mate Michael
Schumacher and Jenson Button.
Ferrari were written off a third into the race yet they put in an amazing
performance and managed a 1-2 finish. The comeback of both of their drivers
was simply amazing. This 1-2 finish would count as one of their best
ever.
A few of the highlights:
Rubens Barrichello won the race despite having to pit very early in the
race to switch from intermediate to dry tyres. His switch to a 3 stop
worked this time and for once Rubens Barrichello gets it right. Well done.
Team-mate Michael spun on the first lap and was relegated to 15th. He
fought his way back to second in another amazing drive from him.
Jenson Button and Takuma Sato managed 3rd and 4th and have moved BAR
into second in the Championship helped by the misfortunes of Renault as
well. There was a concern about the Honda engine on this track but it
didn't miss a beat.
Juan Pablo Montoya managed 5th after looking strong in the the first 2
stints but a gearbox problem forced him to slow down. Team-mate Pizzonia
recovered well from his spin on the first lap that dropped him to 19th and
managed 7th and recording the 3rd fastest lap of the race. Well done to
Pizzonia, his performance in the 4 races he took part in should help him
earn a drive for next year.
David Coulthard finished 6th around where he usually finishes! (DC has
finished 6 or 7th 7 times this year). He opted for intermediates but on
the warmup lap he decides that it isn't wet enough so he starts from the
pit lane with a heavy fuel load on a single stop strategy. The
strategy worked for him and got him into 7th but one wonders had they
applied a similar strategy to Barrichello would he had finished better ?
Kimi Raikkonen yet again suffers from a engine failure. 8 retirements out
of 15 races. What luck!
Giancarlo Fisichella had a solid race and managed to score a point.
Felipe Massa had a tangle with Heidfeld given us a reminder of his earlier
driving style. He did very well though on the intermediates early in the
race.
Mark Webber finished 9th as he struggled to get the maximum out of that
car. Team-mate Klien was doing well until he went speeding in the pit lane.
Jarno Trulli should go immediately. If he believes the Renault is giving
him isn't good enough then he should go. Can't see how Renault would do
that given their fight for 2nd place in the championship. He isn't
interested and he is looking for something else to blame. One would not
expect the second Renault car to finish in 10th when the first one is
challenging for a podium.
Fernando Alonso drove impressively until he made a mistake and spun out
pushing too hard. He'll learn from that but what about the stewards. Why
would they push Michael out from a similar situation last year (at the
Nurburgring) but not push Alonso this time ?
The Toyota's didn't really feature with Zonta in 11th and Panis retiring
on the first lap. Lots more work to be done!.
Jordan and Minardi made up the numbers but it is good to see Bruni come
out of that fire safe.
The TV coverage, shocking!. So much action was missed yet we saw a full
Jordan pit stop.

OK, I watched the Monza race, and of course it was fun. It
always is. But what are we looking forward to. The only good news I here is
J.V. and Renault.
If they go to the 2.4 liter V8 next year, how can they call this the pentulum
of auto racing? It absolutely will not be. Even if they are more
sophisticated, they will not turn faster laps than a C.A.R.T. car. So what do
we call it then? It will just be the proper Euro league vs. the American
cowboy league, featuring a bunch of non-American drivers. How Stupid - John

As a BAR and Williams fan I just don't know what the rest of
the field have to do to beat Ferrari. Early on in the race, after Ruben's
first pitstop and Michael's spin, they looked out of it and Jenson was looking
good for his maiden win, but the amount of speed the Ferraris had in reserve
to claw their way back to the front was scary.
It looks like once again we are heading into the winter break hoping that the
rest of the teams can close the gap - Martin - UK

Sure Trulli isn't motivated, but then why should he be
motivated in the first place? Kicking THE ONLY NON-FERRARI RACE WINNER in 2004
for another guy that got kicked by Flavio B. some years ago ...
I'm asking all of you to ask yourselves : If you were in his situation, would
you still feel like pushing in every single lap like there was no tomorrow?
Come on!
Concerning the TV coverage: I still haven't seen proper a slow motion shot
from the 2nd chicane in the 1st lap, where Michael spun. Did anyone get a
closer look?
Alonso seems to get younger and younger race by race ... if he continues like
that, he will be sitting in a completely unbeatable car in three years' time
and will regularly lose races by crashing out while being five minutes in the

All the reason why Trulli should leave Renault sooner
rather than later. Winning a race is a great achievement but finishing outside
the points in last 2 races driving a podium capable car is a disaster.
Button, Montoya, Fisichella and Webber are all leaving their teams next season
yet they are putting in the effort. Ed.
BTW: Raikkonen was another non-Ferrari race winner this season!
Again on the Trulli subject: Button, Montoya, Fisichella and
Webber ... they *wanted* to leave. Trulli felt OK with Renault 'til he got
kicked. That's the difference!
And "the only non-Ferrari race winner" referred to the time when
Renault announced they didn't want to keep him. By that time he was the only
one! But you're right : driving like he is now is of no use to anyone anymore

Congratulations to Barrichello on winning. A very consistent
drive from him. But for my money what an amazing performance by M.S. once
again. How many drivers in history have done what M.S. did on the weekend. He
seems to do it time and time again when his back is up against the wall. As
always his determination and never die attitude ranks him at the top of his
sport (past and present drivers included).
I must say this was the most intriguing and interesting race of the season.
M.S. continues to show how good a driver he is. When M.S. finally retires (and
hopefully not in the near future) Button and Alonso will be the drivers to
beat. I have a lot of respect for their ability and skill and they have their
feet firmly on the ground to be champions themselves. Although I'm a huge M.S.
fan, Button will be the front man in F1 very soon, not only for his ability on
the racetrack but also off it - Kiki - Australia
