First, my complements. I am a fairly newcomer to the F1 arena and am eating
it up like a child in a candy store! This website has rapidly become my
favorite spot to feast my appetite for news and opinions on the sport. The Heretic replies: Hi Scott, What is NASCAR? Sorry, that was very tongue in cheek. I suspect that F1 has a far bigger following than NASCAR. Maybe just not in the States. With Marlboro, Ford and BAR I would have thought that the sport already gets a lot of American money, but not the sort of money intended for American consumption. American companies are advertising for European or worldwide consumption. Today, much of any sport is dominated by the sponsor’s dollar and F1 is no different. It started in Europe and that is really where it stayed. The few races organised in other countries are token races to claim that it is truly global. I do not agree with you that they are mimicking NASCAR. I think it is just the reality of trying to keep the sport competitive, and NASCAR does that very well. NASCAR on the other hand is truly American. It also tries to go international and that also is just token stuff. Technology is as complex and competition is as tough, but it is a whole different game. Maybe it needs a few more years of US – Indianapolis to be included for it to pick up in popularity in the States. Failing that you are going to have to rely on us for sharing your views and getting feedback. Sad, I know, but what are we going to do? Thank you for being so complimentary of our site. Back to Top |
