Dear Heretic: Agree that Montoya is on a tear and pick him to win (if he can keep the car on the track); agree, too, that the Prancing Horse is stumbling, but think Michael is due and so will finish second. Kimi is losing focus, but I think he's due for a pole position; I just don't think he can take the heat from people like JPM and Michael yet, so I make him the last one on the podium (Ralph will be pushing him, but I don't think he'll be worrying him much).
I think Fernando and David will round out the points with Rubens & Webber in the mix somewhere.
Alas, the Jordan/Fords have fallen away, though Ralph is fun to watch. Is Eddie getting inferior engines because he's shopping Mercs? Or is it just that his chassis is too fragile? Here in the States, Ford/Cosworth has bailed out Chevrolet in the IRL with something they call a "Gen4" which is basically a Ford with a Chevy "badge." Last week, Hornish Jr. wiped the field of Hondas and Toyotas with it; whereas earlier in the season he couldn't even see them in the distance. How I wish this would come to pass in F1!
You're right, the excitement is far from being over --and this year, INDY will actually count for something! - Jim W - USA (Reference Heretic 5-14 - Are Ferrari in trouble ?)

The Heretic replies:

Hi Jim,

I reply after the race so 20-20 hindsight makes for great predictive powers.

As it turned out Michael won with Montoya never far behind him. Raikkonen stayed in the hunt but must now pull a rabbit out to win the championship. It is indeed far from over and apart from Indy counting I wonder if it will not be the deciding race.

Ferrari may be fast enough on the fast sections but seem pathetic when they need to rely on mechanical grip, so I expect them to lose ground in the inner, slower section.

I do not expect Cosworth to catch up before late next year. They are just too far behind.

The Heretic
