Regarding your opening paragraph - that's just about as spot on as it can
get.
Sure the first three races of the season was quite exciting BUT it had NOTHING
to do with the new rules!
The excitement that did feature was due to external factors such as weather, indiscretions
etc although the indiscretions were also mostly weather related. And the
weather is not going to feature every race and that's when your scenario kicks
in.
What really irks me to no end is the new format of qualifying. This is now
boring stuff. Initially I thought it will take a race or two to get used to
but now, after three races I am convinced: This is boring beyond compare!! At
least up to last year, the "boring" stuff - if one wants to call it
that - developed during the race when everybody has made his mark and the best
came out tops. Qualifying was exciting as you could follow the progress of the
teams (or the lack thereof) and the battle for pole which almost presented a
race in itself. BUT THIS!!! The big difference this year is that the boring
stuff now begins Friday and extends to 'till after the race.
No-no this is surely not the way to try and regain your spectators'
interest. You are not even going to keep the remaining ones happy let alone
get the old ones back. - Johan M - South Africa (Reference Heretic

Ja, Johan,
Kramp in die gat.
But, I think it is more of a cauldron. It will eventually boil out and
leave the sport again. Maybe not as spectacular. Maybe not as well publicised.
Maybe not as extravagant. Then again maybe it was unsustainable.
