I quite agree that the rumors about the B.M.W. engine "edge" appear to be wholly without substance. Do you think they may have started at Maranello? They certainly appear to have served the needs of the Big Red more than Sir Frank!
You seem to have given up on Sauber? Why? Those engines certainly held their own against B.M.W. and Mercedes last year. Has there been THAT great a surge forward in engine efficiency from Ferrari, Williams and Renault?! If so, the tragic loss last year at Ilmor/Mercedes may ripple through this year and into next.
I certainly (for D.C.'s sake!) hope that isn't the case. Indeed, nothing is more puzzling to me than MacWest's struggles this year. So. I expect your predictions (1-2 Ferrari & 3-4 JPM & Ralph) are solid enough to bet on.
But something tells me we're all going to be surprised this weekend. It feels to me like it's time for the Black and Silver cars again. Ciao & keep up the good work! - Jim W - USA (Reference Heretic 4-12 - The Ferraris will fly)

The Heretic replies:

Jim,

I would not put it past Ferrari to spread rumours if it gives them an edge. After all they do not baulk at rigging races.

The reason I gave up on Sauber is simply the lack of further development on their engines. One must assume that all the other teams are getting constant revisions to their power plants while Ferrari are focused only on this year’s engine.

Having said that, they were pretty good on Sunday.

I must admit that I am also mystified at the sudden demise of the Ilmore engine. They were very powerful only a season ago. I guess that they had to screw up sooner or later but this is not the year to do it.

I hope that you are right but it is not looking good for McLaren. Rabbits out of hats is what is needed now.
