I
hope somebody will challenge Ferrari |

I hope that the Australian GP was a partial pre-view of
the season. While I think the combination of Ferrari and MS are, at the
moment, dominant, I hope somebody can challenge them in a few races this
season. The Heretic replies: Jeff, I suspect that we will still see Ferrari dominate in the near future. The issue is: How far down the development track is McLaren and Williams with their cars? And then, of course there is the new Ferrari. Will it be faster than last years? We must expect it to be faster but possibly not as reliable. Sauber will give us a good idea of how much of the 2002 car is in the current Ferrari. If they are considerably slower one must assume that the reworked 2001 Ferrari has been subjected to most of the 2002 developments and the new car will be a refinement rather than a leap ahead. If the Bridgestones are better pecking order at the front of the pack for the season is already decided. We have not seen them compete on a very hot circuit – maybe that will favour the Michelins like last year. But, if so, why did they wear so fast in Melbourne? It is fast getting to a crapshoot. A good hot day in Malaysia will give us a better idea – but only if they do not eliminate most of the field at the first corner. Back to Top Loading
