Mar.16 (GMM) Lewis Hamilton has resisted calls for him to join F1's safety-oriented drivers' union, the GPDA.
Grand Prix Drivers' Association stalwarts Pedro de la Rosa and Mark Webber were particularly keen to recruit 2007 championship runner-up Hamilton, as he represents the highly popular young face of the sport. But Hamilton, 23, told the Daily Telegraph that he doesn't have time."If you are part of an important organisation you have to be committed and I really don't have time at the moment," the Briton said.Webber criticised the McLaren racer for not wanting to actively participate in the push to improve driver safety."One day he might be in the barriers and needs someone."I think it is a little bit naive of some young guys not to want to support."You don't have to be a totally active member -- we're only asking for 20 minutes per fortnight," Webber said.
