13 October: The World Motor
Sport Council
today voted on the 2005 Formula 1 Calendar.
As originally proposed by Bernie Ecclestone, the schedule includes 19 races
with the British
Grand Prix making it on a provisional basis until the contract is finalised.
The French Grand Prix is also provisional as well as the San Marino Grand
Prix. A number of the dates have actually changed from the proposed calendar with the French Grand Prix now slotted early in the season on the 17th of April, the San Marino Grand Prix moved a week to the 24th of April, the Canadian Grand Prix moved a week to the 12th of June, the Hungarian and the new Turkish Grands Prix swapping places with Hungary on the 31st of July and Turkey on the 21st of August. The Italian and Belgian Grands Prix have also swapped dates with Italy on the 4th of September and Belgium on the 11th of September. The Brazilian Grand Prix will now be the third last race of the season on the 25th of September followed by Japan with the Chinese Grand Prix to be the last round of the season. The US Grand Prix date is causing some confusion. It was originally proposed for the 12th of June however it appears the organisers want the 19th of June. However the 19th of June was not included in the blocked list of dates for Formula 1 as released by the Motor Sport Council earlier in the year. The dates around that time that were blocked and are not in use by other events are the 5th of June and the 26th of June. The date of the US Grand Prix whether the 5th, the 19th or the 26th is expected to be confirmed before December the 10th. Click here for the 2005 Formula 1 Schedule Loading
