17 December: Red
Bull Racing have announced today that they've signed David Coulthard for one year. Coulthard tested for the team earlier
this month and it appears that the team were impressed. Red Bull were looking at signing both Christian Klien and
Vitantonio Liuzzi for 2005 however they needed a driver with experience to help them improve their car and Coulthard has the
experience and is well known for his good technical feedback. However Coulthard was outclassed by his team-mate Kimi Raikkonen and
was replaced at McLaren by Juan Pablo Montoya.
David Coulthard was quoted as saying "After speaking to team owner
Dietrich Mateschitz I was impressed by Red Bull Racing's plans for the future. This is definitely an exciting new team."
The
other seat is expected to be filled by either Christian Klien or Vitantonio Liuzzi. Klien has one season experience
however Liuzzi was impressive in recent testing. Whoever lands the race drive, the other will most likely get the testing role.
