The Jordan team concluded their first test of the
EJ12 at Silverstone today. Under mainly damp conditions, Giancarlo

the EJ12 while Takuma Sato covered 49 laps in the old car. Click here for the test times from Silverstone
Toyota concluded a 3 day test session at the Paul Ricard track in
France. Allan McNish drove for the team on all 3 days. The test was
run under mainly wet conditions but the team did get an opportunity to
test in the dry. Allan McNish said "I have been pleased with this
test from two sides. Firstly we have made some progress with the car,
focusing again on aerodynamics and electronics. Secondly I was happy that
I did some consistent running in both wet and dry conditions - the first
time I have had that with the new car." At Misano, Minardi concluded a 2 day test session with Mark Webber and Alex Yoong. The test concentrated on testing new brake and rear suspension components. Mark Webber tested on both days covering a total of 74 laps and setting a best time of 1:15.452 while Alex Yoong was only available on the second day and covered 36 laps with a best time of 1:16.242.
23-Jan:
David Coulthard set the fastest at Barcelona in the hybrid car as Kimi
Raikkonen took over testing of the new MP4-17. Felipe Massa took over
testing the C21 from Nick Heidfeld.
Felipe Massa's initial comments on the C21 were "After this first
test I am full of enthusiasm for the SAUBER PETRONAS C21. It has more grip
and is more stable than the C20, which in turn makes me more confident at
the wheel. The Petronas 02A engine is powerful and well integrated, and we
have a very competitive package." Click here for the test times from Barcelona At Silverstone, Takuma Sato had his first long run in the EJ12 at Silverstone under wet and cold conditions. He set a time that was marginally faster than that of his team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella. Sato covered 36 laps while Fisichella covered 14. The test was cut short due to worsening weather conditions in the afternoon. Testing continues tomorrow. He tested on dry and artificially wet conditions setting a best time of 1:06.684 and covering a total of 44 laps.
22-Jan:
Alexander Wurz has broken the lap record at the Barcelona track on
grooved tyres by setting a time of 1:18.194 in the hybrid McLaren. David
Coulthard in the 2002 McLaren was a full second slower while Nick Heidfeld
was under a tenth slower than Coulthard. The lap times set by the new Sauber are impressive and Nick Heidfeld approves of the new car and said "I can tell that it is an improvement on the C20 even at this early stage, and that it is going to be a good car." Tomorrow, Kimi Raikkonen takes over the testing of the 2002 McLaren while Coulthard tests in the hybrid. Felipe Massa gets his first taste of the new Sauber.
Meanwhile Jaguar have commented on the reason for delaying their
scheduled test at Barcelona. A spokesperson for the team said "We
decided to postpone our planned Barcelona test this week in an effort to
better understand the problem we are experiencing on the front wing
section of the Jaguar R3. Instead, we are conducting a straight-line
programme with last year's R2 and this year's R3." Click here for the test times from Barcelona At Silverstone, Giancarlo Fisichella covered a few laps in the EJ12 for the first time after Takuma Sato shook down the car yesterday. Fisichella covered 17 laps in the new car and 24 in the old. He set a best time of 1:25.090 which is over 3 seconds slower than the best time set at Silverstone last year, however given the cold weather conditions and being car's real first run, Jordan have reason to be happy. Fisichella commented on his first taste of the EJ12 by saying "Driving the EJ12 today went fairly well, although I didn’t do very many timed laps. It looks really good on high-speed corners and I’m excited about having some more time in the car over the next two days." Click here for the test times from Silverstone
