He completed 25 laps at Fiorano with a best time of 1:00.82. 17-Mar: Following the announcement that Renault have purchased Benetton, Renault have further announced that Flavio Briatore will be returning to the Benetton team as the team's director starting at the Brazilian GP. Falvio has spent 8 years at Benetton between 1989 and 1997 helping the team win 2 driver's championships with Michael Schumacher and 1 constructor's championship. Prior to this move, Flavio was heading Supertec who supply engines to both Benetton and Arrows this year. 16-Mar: On the second and final day of testing at Silverstone, Jenson Button sets the quickest time followed closely by Olivier Panis and Jarno Trulli. Burti and Alesi were almost 2 seconds off the pace of Button ... Testing Times 16-Mar: Renault buys Benetton for around $120 Million US dollars. Benetton will remain the team's official sponsor for the next 2 years. The team will then switch to the Renault brand name with a completely new car and engine package. Benetton currently run Supertec engines which are modified 1997 Renault engines. That was the year Renault decided to pull out and now they have decided to come back. Renault engines powered Jacques Villeneuve, Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher to win their World Championship's before McLaren Mercedes dominiated the scene from 1998. This continues the trend of major car makers stepping into the Formula 1 arena with Ford owning Jaguar Racing, Fiat owning Ferrari, Mercedes has a 40% stake in McLaren, a strong partnership between both BMW and Williams and BAR and Honda.
