19-Feb: Rubens Barrichello tested the F1-2000 at Mugello for the first time. He completed 59 laps with a best time of 1:26.013, this time is almost 0.5 seconds faster than what Schumacher managed to clock on his first day of testing the F1-2000 on the 17th of February, Barrichello continues testing tomorrow. At Barcelona, it was Hakkinen's turn to top the times (1:21.86) followed by Frentzen (1:21.99) and a surprise Gene in a Minardi was 3rd (1:22.10). Coulthard, Herbert, Irvine and Trulli all clocked times in 1:22's. Minardi new driver Gaston Mazzacane was 8th followed by de la Rosa and the Prost pair of Heidfeld and Alesi. Most of the teams are still having problems with their cars and are trying to sort them out before the season opener in Melbourne. 18-Feb: Michael Schumacher has shattered the lap record at Mugello clocking a time of 1:24.850 which is 1.65 seconds quicker than what he set yesterday. Rubens Barrichello continued testing the F399 with a best time of 1:26.517. Barrichello will test the F1-2000 at Mugello tomorrow. At Barcelona David Coulthard (1:22.14) was marginally faster than Frentzen (1:22.17). Irvine (1:22.55), Trulli (1:22.59) and Hakkinen (1:22.90) made the top 5. Herbert was 6th clocking a time of 1:23.16 followed by Mazzacane (1:24.35), Verstappen (1:25.09) and Alesi (1:25.20). From these times, it does not appear that McLaren are as dominant as they were last year but of course, testing is one thing racing is another. 17-Feb: Mika Hakkinen clocks the fastest time at Barcelona with a time of 1:21.51 followed by Coulthard (1:22:19) and Herbert (1:22:21). Trulli, Frentzen, Verstappen, and Irvine followed with Alesi and Gene 8th and 9th. McLaren did suffer a few problems including an oil leak while Jordan are still suffering from electronic problems. At Mugello, Michael Schumacher continued testing the F1-2000 with a best time of 1:26.506 while Barrichello tested the F399 with a best time of 1:27.268 16-Feb: Minardi have launched the M02 at Spain today. The car is coloured in bright yellow reflecting Minardi's major sponsor Telefonica. The car will be powered by the Fondmetal V10 which is a developed version of the Ford 10 Minardi used last year. Marc Gene and Gaston Mazzacane will be driving for the team next season. Arrow meanwhile have announced that they will launch the 2000 contender on the 28th of February. They are the only team remaining to launch their new contender. 16-Feb: Jacques Villeneuve concluded his testing at Kyalami today and managed to set the fastest time for the whole session with a time ot 1:23.271. The BAR team now moves to Jerez for a 3 day test session on the 23rd of February. Meanwhile at Mugello both Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello were present with Barrichello testing the F399 and Schumacher testing the F1-2000. The session was wet and Barrichello clocked a best time of 1:35.683 while Schumacher clocked a time of 1:32.435. 15-Feb: Jacques Villeneuve continued testing for the BAR team today at Kyalami. He managed a total of 52 laps and a best time of 1:23.836. The session started under wet conditions and started to dry out later in the afternoon. BAR concludes the Kyalami test tomorrow while Williams have concluded their testing. At Mugello, Michael Schumacher is expected to continue testing the F1-2000 tomorrow. 14-Feb: Minardi have announced that Gaston Mazzacane will be their second driver for the 2000 season, the team will launch their 2000 contender on the 16th of February. 14-Feb: Ricardo Zonta sets the fastest time in Kyalami (1:23.363) followed by Ralf Schumacher (1:23.698) and Jenson Button (1:23.939). This was the last official day for Williams as they will be leaving back tomorrow, Jacques Villeneuve will take over the testing duties for BAR for the next 2 days. Barcelona tests have ended and McLaren have moved to Santa Pod for some aerodynamic private testing. Ferrari will start a long testing session at Mugello from Wednesday. 13-Feb: Ricardo Zonta sets the fastest time in Kyalami and also completes a race distance simulation. His fastest time was 1:23.895 followed by Ralf Schumacher (1:24.155) and Jenson Button (1:24.656). Zonta will continue testing on Monday while Villeneuve returns for the last 2 days. In Barcelona, Pedro de la Rosa sets a new fastest time at the circuit for 2000, he clocked a 1:20.23 followed by Mika Salo, Pedro Diniz, Fisichella, Hakkinen and Coulthard. It appears that Arrows and Sauber were testing some qualifying runs while McLaren are testing reliability. 12-Feb: Jenson Button sets the fastest time (1:24.777) at Kyalami followed closely by both Ralf Schumacher and Ricardo Zonta. Both Williams drivers did around 50 laps while Zonta did 91 laps. BAR will remain at Kyalami until Wednesday while Williams will return to Europe on Monday. Meanwhile at Fiorano, Rubens Barrichello continues testing the F1-2000, he did around 80 laps with a best time of 1:00:88. Michael Schumacher was asked to take a long rest due to injuring his neck while testing. He is due to test again on Wednesday. 12-Feb: David Coulthard was again the fastest man in Barcelona today. He has clocked a time of 1:21.75, 0.64 seconds faster than de la Rosa and 0.8 seconds faster than Diniz. Salo was 4th followed by Hakkinen, Herbert, Fisichella and Irvine. Jaguar are facing some reliability problems but they are also not very fast. Jordan and Prost have concluded testing at Barcelona. 11-Feb: David Coulthard was the fastest man in Barcelona today. He has clocked a time of 1:21.43, 0.4 seconds faster than Frentzen and almost 0.8 seconds faster than Hakkinen who was testing the 99 car. Both Diniz and Salo in the Sauber were 4th and 5th followed by Trulli, Fisichella and Heidfeld. Eddie Irvine was a disappointing 9th more than 1.5 seconds slower than Coulthard followed by de la Rosa, Herbert and finally Jean Alesi who was 4.5 seconds off the pace. Meanwhile at Kyalami the weather got better as the rain eased and both BAR and Williams had a productive afternoon session , Zonta was fastest followed by Ralf Schumacher and Jenson Button. Villeneuve did not test today. 11-Feb: Ferrari appear to be running into more problems with the F1-2000. Rubens Barrichello only managed to test the car for 6 laps due to a fuel pressure problem. Barrichello set a fastest time of 1:01:37. The car was then taken to the workshop. Barrichello continued to test the F399 car and clocked a fastest time of 1:01:34. |
