Is it a 2-way fight for the Drivers' title ?

Following the Monaco GP, Michael Schumacher leads David Coulthard in the Drivers' championship by 12 points and has recently said that it is a 2-way fight for the championship given that Mika Hakkinen and Ralf Schumacher failed to score points in Monaco.
While that could be the case, there are a number of factors that need to be considered. McLaren have been throwing away points at each of the last 4 races simply because of starting problems and if that continues Michael and Ferrari will be too far ahead to catch. Williams on the other hand have a very fast car and if they sort out their reliability problems they could start taking away points rapidly from the top 2 teams. There are a number of other teams that are constantly improving including BAR and Jaguar and they could also take away points from the top 2.
With all that said, if Ferrari keep up their excellent reliability and don't commit mistakes, it doesn't seem that anyone will be able to catch them.

Is it a 2-way fight for the title ? Will McLaren continue to throw away points giving both championships to Ferrari without a real contest ? Will Williams quickly solve their reliability issues and challenge for the championship ? What do you think Have Your Say   (What others are saying)

What others are saying:

Ferrari and McLaren are the only two teams that at this stage of the season can fight for the Constructors Title.
If Williams snatch a win in Canada then this theory will not be valid anymore
Last year Arrows scored 2 points in Montreal so let's hope for me and all Arrows fans
By the way I saw Scott the other day. He is an Arrows supporter through and through and has been to the Melbourne and Sepang races to support them. How are you doing mate!!! - Rob - Australia

M Schumacher's time is over, David Coulthard is going to win the championship this year, by the next race McLaren will have their problems fixed. Next year Williams will take Ferrari's place in the fight against McLaren but Coulthard will have the upperhand, he has been too long in the shadow of unfortunate circumstances - Kiljek - South Africa

This is to Chris in Australia. Chris, it looks like you are a Ferrari/Schumacher supporter. Well, so am I mate. (The most beautiful car on the F1 circuit today is a stalled McLaren - sorry McLaren guys! And we have been seeing a number of them lately) However I must say I am slightly worried about DC. He seems to be quicker these days and looks quite capable of at least matching MS's pace. In Austria MS, once he was behind DC could not make an impression on DC's lead certainly not enough to threaten him. In Monaco DC also out qualified MS by a fair margin and this is one of MS's favourite tracks. The race itself cannot be objectively judged due to the nature of the track. I hope you are right mate but I am slightly ill at ease - Johan M - South Africa

Well its too hard too say, but Schumacher has definitely got the upper hand over DC. To be honest I think if Williams found this competitive edge before the season started it would be Schumacher vs. Schumacher and Barrichello vs. Coulthard - Chris - Australia

I think Michael Schumacher and Ferrari will repeat as champions. DC will give him a good fight, but in the end, Schumi will come out on top. McLaren have thrown away too many good opportunities that could have placed them at the top of the standings early on in the season. Williams, although very fast, have not shown me the reliability that I need to see in order to classify them as a serious threat to either Schumacher or Ferrari. Congratulations to Jaguar on their first podium!! - Dave G - USA

I think the battle for the drivers championship will be between Michael Schumacher and DC. McLaren and Ferrari are the strongest teams at the moment. I think Williams will get better towards the end of the season but wont challenge for either championship. Schuey will win the title unless DC and McLaren do a great job and DC is consistent, I feel dc wont be as strong near the later stages in the championship, cos tracks such as Suzuka don't suite him, he hasn't been good at the end of the championship b4 !
If Ferrari and Schumacher finish a lot of the remaining races and avoid bad luck they will be champions - Ben C - England

I think if Williams sort their problems out and the drivers drive more responsible and a little bit of luck they will be on top 90% of the time.
If Michelin get their tyres in order there will be a big fight between Ralf and Montoya for first place - Francois - South Africa

I think Ferrari will win quite easily because like you say they are mostly having good reliability unlike McLaren who have failed to get both cars off the grid in the last three races - Lee - England
