What others are saying:
He'll be back on the podium again ...
and again ... and again. Slapped with bad luck in Spain but next he'll
be on full throttle again ... Jack N - Malaysia
Mika is the best. He will fight till
the end. Go Mika! - Ana M - Portugal
Mika is one of the best two drivers but
his car is a crap. Give him a good car and he will win MS and DC - Sakis
P Greece.
I think Mika should invest in some new sunglasses
- Sergio - Australia
Frankly, i am a bit disappointed with
the performance of the "Flying Finn". No doubt he will win a
couple of races this season but it won't be enough to disrupt the
looming battle between MS and DC. I am sure many will agree that DC is
in his competitive best this season and prudence will dictate that
support of the entire Woking outfit will be thrown at him come crunch
time. It is really sad that a twice World Champion would be struggling
so much this season, what motivation does he need to rack up those
valuable podium finishes? Being a new father should be more than
enough to drive his passion to win again -
Rael - Philippines
Although it is still relatively early
in the season I would go as far as to say that if Mika does not win
(or at least finish in front of DC) in Barcelona then his WDC
challenge is as good as over.
Although McLaren publicly deny that team orders will come into force,
Ron Dennis is well aware that it will be much more difficult to make
up the deficit with 6 genuinely competitive cars on the grid. They
almost threw away the 1999 WDC by allowing DC to beat MH at Spa, I
don't think they will make that mistake again (in reverse).
It is true that Mika has not had the best of luck this season so far,
but he did look very ordinary at Sepang and Imola and must raise his
game effective now.
For the record I hope Mika does win on Sunday - Dunder
- Hong Kong
Yes, Mika Hakkinen will definitely
bounce back. He's a two-times world champion - these things don't come
that easily. Although David has raised his game this year, I think
Mika is still better. Let's not forget that his car has failed him
twice in four races this year - in Australia, where he ran off the
track straight into the tyre barrier, with absolutely no control - and
in Brazil, where the clutch thing left him standing there, in second
grid position, praying that no distracted driver steers his 160 kph
formula one car directly into him... Pretty scary, I'd say. Anyway,
enough to make one lose his confidence in the car. I think that's the
reason we didn't get to see Mika pushing as hard as he can in Imola.
But don't worry, David and Schumi; if Mika's gonna get the car he
deserves, you two are not gonna be alone up there for the rest of the
season. Enjoy while it lasts... Adrian - Romania
I believe that Hakkinen will surprise
all of us, starting from the Spanish GP. People say that the past
repeats itself, so that is what I am betting on. Also, I think
Hakkinen is a great driver and he must be already frustrated with his,
or his car, performance, that is why he will bounce back, just like he
did last year. And, even though he did not win the championship, he
surely gave Michael a hard time - Dan
A - Brazil
I think this season will be the closest
we have seen for many years. I wouldn't be surprised if we see 3
to 4 drivers (including Mika) slogging it out to the very last race.
So hold tight race fans we are in for some fantastic racing in 2001.
I'm excited!!! - Ang - Australia
I know Hakkinen is a Fin, but he is
just like heroes in the Hindi movies ... handsome and strong and sill
surely emerge as the winner in the end despite the the bad starts ...
movies ... -
Nur H - Malaysia
Even though Mika is not as talented as
MS, he is the only driver who can capitalize on Schumacher's mistakes.
There is no doubt that he is better than Coulthard and let's hope that
he will bounce back to give us some entertainment for the rest of the
season - Vandana - India
With due respect to Kari's viewpoint
Hakkinen will bounce back. Which is to say McLaren will bounce back.
Hakkinen is a better driver technically than DC but Schumacher (the
elder) is, among the current crop of frontrunners, in a class of his
own. While I am a fan of F1 with a special place in my heart for
McLaren and Mika the truth is the truth. In an identical car in
perfect conditions the MH/MS showdown would be spectacular. In less
than perfect conditions Schumacher would win, end of story.
The issue is, will McLaren (Mika) bounce back, yes, they have a great
chassis, a good engine, the best (for this season anyway) tyres, the
best driver combination and they know how to win, consistently. I
believe this will be another McLaren Constructors year, perhaps with a
Ferrari Drivers Champion. Mika is not that much better than David
(compared to Michael and Rubens) and they will take points from each
other, a problem MS won't have. Three wins and Mika will be very close
to the front and motivated to chase. The real issues this year will be
how the teams adapt to the new regs and how many points William's can
take. The duopoly of the last few years is gone. The playing field is
still pretty uneven though, and Ferrari and McLaren will, overall,
share the glory again - Geoff H
- Australia
.
Mika has already proven his abilities. He has a cautious approach that
means he has poor races at times, but there is no arguing with the
results. Besides, the car is understeering, and this will never suit
anyone with genuine skill. Sort the car, and Mika will deliver, and
Coulthard will look comparatively average -
Alex C - UK
Yes he will and then be ready MS - Dan
- UK
Honestly I don't think so because of
Coulthard's race results I think Ron Dennis is backing Coulthard - Chris
- Australia
If Mika's car will not fail him anymore -
He will be definitely stronger than DC. If he will be able to win the
Championship depends on the speed what McLaren can achieve.
Mika is definitely as good a driver as MS - And it would be interesting
to see them drive a 100% equal car and compete - Kari - USA.
