What others are saying:
If this series does go to plan it would
be a place for Indy and Ff1 drivers to go to, to still be successful -
Chris - Australia
I can't see it going pay-per-view, and
staying at the pinnacle of motorsport; anything that reduces audiences
reduces the commercial appeal of F1 involvement, which could lead to
manufacturers, and sponsors pulling out. If F1 goes to pay-per-view, I
think it inevitable that a rival series will emerge -
Alex C - Brazil
No way! This can't happen...Formula 1 is
as famous as it is, because of the fans! If they turn f1 into an event
only to be seen on pay-per-view, I will boycott (regardless of my love
for Formula 1). And I suggest the rest of the fans to do the same.
Formula 1 is a worldwide event, and accessible for everybody, and it has
to continue to be! I don't think that the manufacturers will allow that
to happen, but if they do give in to Kirch Group, F1 races will become
something to rich people, and rich people only to enjoy, and that is not
interesting neither for the manufacturers nor for the Kirch Group.
Unfortunately, there's not much fans can do but to BOYCOTT! -
Dan A - Brazil
When such 'splits' have happened in
other sports they have tended to be very detrimental.
The car manufacturers need 'free tv' coverage of F1 and I am sure that
their announcement is very much a statement of intent should there be
any movement by Kirch toward pay-per-view for F1.
On the basis that it is in everyone's' interest to see F1 being
a success I am sure that a compromise will be reached which allows
free coverage to continue - Dunder
- Hong Kong
rival series dilute the talent pool.
however pay-tv is interesting as my local carrier refuses to play any f1
race, live or tape-delayed. probably a usa thing but I thought the popularity
of the usgp would have changed all of that. thank god for the internet -
Scott - USA
Well...from a personal point of view I am
totally against the fact that Formula1 in the future will be a private
property on pay-TV because I don't have it but there are good and bad
points that come out of it if this will be happening. Personally the
consequences will be all negative - Rob - Australia
I would object to F1 becoming a
pay-by-view event. I would however like to see F1 on pay TV as this
would ensure that I get to see it live instead of 3 hours after the race
ends. If a rival series was in the same style as F1 then I would watch
it, if it was like the American CART or Nascar then I wouldn't - that's
just boring people driving around a boring track - Martin - Australia
