What others are saying:
I believe Michael has the skill and the ability to win, but
suspect that he doesn't have the equipment. Conversely Mika and David have the equipment
but lack the aggression and courage to to use it especially in the rain. If the
remainder of the season brings wet races and Ferrari does not have mechanical failures
Michael will be the world champion for 2000!!! - Tony D - Qatar
On paper,Yes. In practice, No.
In my opinion he simply misses the mental condition that is needed in this stage of the
Championship.
He has proven not to be able to control when he must perform under pressure. In this stage
of the championship the pressure is very high so you cannot expect to stay in first
position with an advantage of 20 seconds or more during a race, which seems to be (besides
wet track conditions) his favourite scenario.
I expect the 2000 F1-champion to be the best possible combination of driver skills,
mentality and state of the art technology and that is, if the McLaren team does not make
any big strategic mistakes like they made in the past, D.Coulthard - Robert van S.
- The Netherlands
Whilst I believe that the German is in a class of his own,
you cannot count out the likes of DC and Mika yet. There is certainly going to be a
fight to the end and as long as there are no team orders placed in the McLaren line up to
disadvantage DC then I believe that it could well be David that takes the title this year.
He has shown that he has the pace and the slight advantage over Mika, whilst also
being a "people's driver". By this I mean he has a good personality.
However, nothing could take away the thrill of watching these people in their
element and I wish them all good luck - Hazel - England
With a change of attitude and pace he might win. But I
think that West (McLaren) pace and reliability will win at the end of the day - Serge
- Luxembourg
The German is by no doubt the best driver currently in F1
Give him the car and he will do it, just had a bit of bad luck but he is really the driver
to beat for this year - Jacques - South Africa
Michael Schumacher just needs good luck and now Rubens is
back in form and can really help Schumacher and Ferrari. I believe that Schumacher will
win the his 3rd title this year - Bilal - Pakistan
Opinions on Michael Schumacher winning the championship
seem to revolve time and again on him winning because he deserves it. I believe it is
unfair to say that none of the other runners who constantly put their hearts and souls
into their craft also deserve success. In actual fact, fairness will have nothing to do
with the title. Further stability and reliability from McLaren will probably make it
impossible for Ferrari to win the driver's championship. But the circuits with high
downforce are still Ferrari's domain so only a superb team effort can bring victory to Ron
Dennis and co in Hungary if Schumacher finishes the race - Bruno A - Australia
If he has good solid drives like he did in the first 3
rounds and now Rubens is more of a title threat so he will back up Schumacher. Dont
underestimate Ferrari there will be more 1-2s - Boomer - Australia
I think what Shuie needs is a lot of luck and a lot more
help from Barrichello, Rubens doesn't seem to have the Irvine skills as a second driver
but I consider its not all his fault. The team also has a big part in getting Rubens to
that level to help Schumacher win his title - Bill C - Australia
I'm sure Michael will win this championship - Kristof
S - Belgium
Unless Ferrari are able to find some additional pace
(reliably) Schumacher will not win the championship.
His lead over the McLaren pair has been whittled down, and
whilst you might say he has been unfortunate I think it is tough to argue that Coulthard
has had better luck. The McLaren car looks to be considerably faster and even Schumacher's
unquestionable ability is not enough to counter that.
One of the McLaren's look set to win, and from the pit stop
episode when the pace car was out in Germany it is clear that Hakkinen is still their
choice - Dunder - Hong Kong
Yes, he can because in my opinion he truly deserves it and
it is not a matter of him being the best driver in the world because he took up the
challenge since 1996 and he has stayed with the team ever since and I think, no , no , I
know that he will win his third world title - Johann - South Africa
I am certain that he will win the championship, because
first of all he deserves it by being the best pilot and proving that the second best car
could win too - L M - Belgium
I doubt that Schumacher can win the championship. He
appears to be cracking under pressure from McLaren. He was indeed hit from behind in the
last 2 races but he had bad starts both times and when you have bad starts then you have
to face the results. If he is to win the championship it will be because Coulthard and
Hakkinen take away points from each other and the FIA was too harsh on Coulthard. He will
also need Barrichello to hold up the McLarens. End result, title maybe won but not by
driver skill - Steve W - Singapore
Without a doubt Schumacher will win the title this year.
Even though this is his 4th try with Ferrari, the first two attempts he didn't really have
the car, last year he broke his leg. Only this year he has a car that seems to be able to
match McLaren. He doesn't need help from Barrichello. He just needs a bit of luck and the
drivers behind him to be more careful. After all he is the best - Tony S - Hong
Kong
