Rubens Barrichello wins the race ahead of Michael
Schumacher and Ralf Schumacher. Kimi Raikkonen, David Coulthard and
Giancarlo Fisichella make the top 6. Final Lap .... and Rubens Barrichello wins the Hungarian Grand Prix. Ferrari win the 2002 Constructors' title. Rubens moves into second in the Championship with 45 points while Ralf Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya have 40 points each. Lap 76: Ferrari must be already celebrating as they are about to clinch the Constructors title! Lap 75: The 2 Ferraris at the front continue to lap at a slower pace allowing Ralf Schumacher to close the gap slightly. Lap 74: There are no fights for position at this stage. Lap 73/77: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Fisichella, Massa, Trulli, Heidfeld and Sato. Retirements: Villeneuve, Irvine, Button and Davidson. Lap 72: And now Michael slows down again. Maybe he wanted to break the track record! Lap 71: Michael Schumacher all of a sudden pushes and set a new lap record with a 1:16.207. The gap to Barrichello is down to under a second! Lap 70: Amazingly only 4 cars out of 20 have retired this race. That is a very low attrition rate for Hungary! Lap 69: Barrichello now eases and the gap to Michael is down to 3.2 seconds. Lap 68/77: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Fisichella, Massa, Trulli, Heidfeld and Sato. Retirements: Villeneuve, Irvine, Button and Davidson. Lap 67: Barrichello leads Michael by over 4 seconds now. Michael is dropping back a bit but he is over 20 seconds ahead of Ralf Schumacher. Lap 66: Behind the top 10, Montoya is in 11th ahead of Panis, Salo, de la Rosa, McNish and Webber. Lap 65: Rubens Barrichello increases the gap to Michael to 3 seconds! Lap 64: Both McLarens are flying for some reason ?? They are lapping over a second faster than the Ferraris! Lap 63: At the front Barrichello leads Michael by 2.2 seconds. Ralf Schumacher is 22 seconds behind the lead while Raikkonen is 46 seconds behind the lead. Lap 62/77: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Fisichella, Massa, Trulli, Heidfeld and Sato. Retirements: Villeneuve, Irvine, Button and Davidson. Lap 61: Anthony Davidson spins and goes into the gravel and retires! Lap 61: Raikkonen pits .... 7.8 seconds ... rejoins in 4th. Great work by the McLaren crew! Lap 60: Raikkonen ready for his final stop! Lap 59: Coulthard pits .... 8.2 seconds ... he rejoins ahead of Fisichella and Massa. Impressive! Lap 58: The 2 McLarens are pushing in order to get ahead of Massa. Lap 57: Rubens leads Michael by 1.1 seconds. Lap 56: Still the McLarens and Panis yet to stop for their second stop. Lap 56: Rubens Barrichello pits ... 7.6 seconds ... he stays in the lead! Lap 55: Rubens Barrichello pushing before his pit stop. Lap 55: Michael Schumacher pits from 2nd .... 7.4 seconds. Lap 54: Ralf Schumacher pits from 3rd ... 8.2 seconds Lap 53: Massa pits from 6th ... 8.4 seconds.! Lap 52: Salo pits from 13th and so does de la Rosa from 14th ... Salo stays ahead! Lap 51: Fisichella pits from 4th ... 8.5 seconds. Lap 51: Webber makes his second stop and again hits problems. Lap 50: Takuma Sato in 10th is the first to make his second pit stop. Lap 50: Rubens leads Michael by a second while Ralf Schumacher in 3rd is 24 seconds behind. Fisichella in 4th is 56 seconds behind the leader! Lap 49/77: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Fisichella, Massa, Raikkonen, Coulthard, Trulli, Heidfeld and Sato. Retirements: Villeneuve, Irvine and Button. Lap 48: But Michael responds back and closes the gap to under 1.5 seconds! Lap 47: Rubens Barrichello leads Michael Schumacher by over 2 seconds. Ralf Schumacher is 23 seconds behind. Lap 46: David Coulthard goes off but recovers. He retains his 7th place. Lap 45: Raikkonen in 6th is right behind Massa now! Lap 45: Rubens increases the gap to Michael back to over a second. Lap 44: Fisichella in 4th is already 52 seconds behind the Ferraris with Massa 2 seconds behind Fisichella. Lap 43: Just 0.6 seconds separate Michael from Rubens!. Ralf is over 23 seconds behind! Lap 42: Felipe Massa in 5th is being caught by the McLaren of Raikkonen. The gap is under 2 seconds now. Lap 41: The 2 Ferraris lap Davidson for the second time! Lap 40: Michael Schumacher has closed the gap to under a second! Lap 39: Rubens Barrichello leads Michael Schumacher by almost 1.5 seconds. Ralf Schumacher is 22 seconds behind with Giancarlo Fisichella in 4th, 45 seconds behind Rubens! Lap 38: Behind the top 10, Montoya is in 11th ahead of Panis, Salo, de la Rosa, McNish, Webber and Davidson. Lap 34: So after the first round of stops (neither McLaren has stopped yet). Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Raikkonen and Coulthard. Lap 33: Ralf Schumacher pits and rejoins in 3rd! Lap 32: Barrichello pits .... 9 seconds ... rejoins behind Ralf but ahead of Michael! Lap 32: Button under pressure from Raikkonen spins and gets stuck in the gravel! Lap 31: Michael Schumacher pits ... 8.4 seconds ... rejoins behind Ralf. Lap 30: A Ferrari about to pit. Ralf is now 15 seconds behind Rubens! Lap 29: Rubens Barrichello responds to Michael's fastest lap with a 1:17.164! Lap 29: Fisichella pits from 4th. He is over 33 seconds behind. He rejoins in 11th. Lap 28: Michael Schumacher sets the fastest lap of the race so far with a 1:17.582. Ralf lapped a second slower! Lap 28/77: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Fisichella, Massa, Button, Raikkonen, Trulli, Coulthard and Heidfeld. Retirements: Villeneuve and Irvine. Lap 27: Allan McNish and Mark Webber both pit. McNish has a clean stop while Webber loses time during his pit stop with a problem. Lap 27: Raikkonen is now right behind Button while Coulthard is right behind Trulli. Lap 26: Barrichello is now 1.6 seconds ahead of Michael with Ralf Schumacher 13 seconds behind Rubens. Lap 25: Anthony Davidson pits for his first scheduled stop. 9.6 seconds. Lap 25: Irvine retires. Montoya is down in 17th place after his pit stop! Lap 24/77: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Fisichella, Massa, Button, Raikkonen, Trulli, Coulthard and Heidfeld. Retirements: Villeneuve. Lap 23: Montoya pits as he damaged his car going off while defending his position! Lap 22: And Raikkonen passes Montoya. Stunning move and a payback to Montoya's pass on him last race! Lap 22: Montoya made a mistake and Raikkonen has closed up. Lap 21: Jacques Villeneuve is the first retirement of the race as he stops on the track. Lap 20: The gap between the top 3 is fairly static. Lap 19: Ralf Schumacher has lapped quicker than both Ferraris this lap! Lap 18/77: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Fisichella, Massa, Button, Montoya, Raikkonen, Trulli and Coulthard. No retirements. Lap 17: Interestingly, the gap between Rubens and Ralf seems to have stabilised at around 11.5 seconds. Lap 16: Button however seems to be holding up those behind with Montoya only a second behind him and Raikkonen under 2 seconds behind. Trulli and Coulthard are not that far behind. Lap 15: The 2 Ferraris are close at the front, Ralf is 11 seconds behind, Fisichella is 21 seconds behind, Massa is 24 seconds behind and Button is 29 seconds behind. It is fairly spaced out now. Lap 14: The closest fight remains between Montoya and Raikkonen with just 0.5 seconds between them but overtaking is almost impossible here so it will be during the pit stops if Raikkonen has a chance. But it is exciting watching them that close! Lap 13: Barrichello now leads Michael by 1.3 seconds. Ralf Schumacher is 11.5 seconds behind while Fisichella is 18.9 seconds behind. Looks like the Ferrari will lap everyone this race!! Lap 13/77: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Fisichella, Massa, Button, Montoya, Raikkonen, Trulli and Coulthard. No retirements. Lap 12: Ralf Schumacher still lapping around 0.8 seconds slower than the Ferraris. Lap 11: Michael Schumacher sets the fastest lap of the race so far with a 1:18.196 Lap 10: Ralf Schumacher is now just under 9 seconds behind Rubens. Fisichella is 12 seconds behind Rubens. Lap 9: Close battles - Rubens and Michael (under a second). Montoya and Raikkonen (under a second), Coulthard and Heidfeld (under a second) Lap 8: Behind the top 10, Heidfeld is in 11th ahead of Villeneuve, Irvine, Sato, Salo, de la Rosa, McNish, Webber, Panis and Davidson. Lap 7: Barrichello leads Michael by just over a second while Ralf Schumacher is 7 seconds behind! Lap 6/77: Top 10 - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Fisichella, Massa, Button, Montoya, Raikkonen, Trulli and Coulthard. No retirements. Lap 5: Ralf Schumacher is under 2 seconds ahead of Fisichella in 4th while Massa is right behind Fisichella. Lap 4: Olivier Panis also had a bad start. He is down in 19th after starting from 12th! Lap 3: Ralf Schumacher is now over 4 seconds behind the 2 Ferraris! Lap 2: Bad starts from Montoya (4th down to 7th). Trulli (6th down to 9th). Heidfeld (8th down to 11th) Lap 1/77: Barrichello leads Michael by half a second while Ralf Schumacher is already over 2 seconds behind!. Race Start: Order - Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Fisichella, Massa, Button, Montoya and Raikkonen. Race Start: Barrichello has a good start, Michael keeps second and Ralf keep third. Montoya has a bad start and he is down in 7th! Race Start ... Lights ... GO! Cars arrive back at the grid! Formation lap underway ... all the cars (including Barrichello who had problems in the last 2 races) get away cleanly! Sadly Arrows won't take part in this race as they continue to find a way out of their financial problems. Alex Yoong has been replaced by Anthony Davidson who has qualified in 20th. Formation lap in 1 minutes. The track temperature is currently at 30 degrees while the air temperature is at 28 degrees. Formation lap in 3 minutes. The Ferraris however dominated all weekend and given that they are starting from 1st and 2nd places, only reliability problems will stop them from winning this race and clinching the Constructors' title. Formation lap in 6 minutes. Given the nature of this track, it is almost impossible to overtake and a good start will be crucial for a good result. Pit stop strategies play an important role as well. Formation lap in 8 minutes. Rubens Barrichello starts from Pole alongside him on the front row is his team-mate Michael Schumacher. Ralf Schumacher starts from 3rd with Juan Pablo Montoya alongside him. Giancarlo Fisichella in the Jordan will be starting from 5th on the grid with Jarno Trulli next to him. Felipe Massa starts from 7th with his team-mate Nick Heidfeld alongside him and Jenson Button and David Coulthard make up the 5th row. Formation lap in 10 minutes. The pit exit has now closed and all the drivers have managed to get onto the grid. Formation lap in 15 minutes. The pit exit has opened and the drivers have 15 minutes to take their position on the grid. The drivers usually run a shakedown lap and head back into the pits for a final check before parking their cars on the grid. Formation lap in 30 minutes. Formation lap starting at 2:00 PM local time.
