GP - 2nd Saturday Practice Session
Session over with Michael Schumacher ahead of Rubens Barrichello and David Coulthard. Kimi Raikkonen, Nick Heidfeld and Jarno Trulli make the top 6. 45 min: Kimi Raikkonen moves into 4th place with a time of 1:18.765. Olivier Panis moves into 7th. 44 min: Jacques Villeneuve improves but remains in 8th place. 43 min: Coulthard moves into 3rd with a time of 1:18.686 just 0.052 seconds behind Michael. 42 min: Both Hakkinen and Coulthard are on the track now. 41 min: Nick Heidfeld goes 3rd with a time of 1:19.010! 40 min: Rubens Barrichello takes second from Trulli with a time of 1:18.674. That is 0.04 seconds behind Michael. 39 min: Jarno Trulli goes 2nd with a time of 1:19.186! 37 min: Barrichello and Trulli and on the track with new tyres. Alonso improves in 22nd but still outside the 107% mark. 35 min: 10 minutes to go and the top 4 have not improved their times since the first session. 34 min: Michael Schumacher is lapping around 2 seconds off his fastest time at this stage. Ralf Schumacher goes into 5th place with a time of 1:19.406. 32 min: Alesi responds jumping to 13th with a time of 1:20.741. Burti is in 15th at the moment. 31 min: Jenson Button improves to 19th leaving Alesi behind. 30 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Barrichello, Heidfeld, Villeneuve, Trulli, Panis, Frentzen and R Schumacher. 29 min: Fisichella takes 17th spot from Alonso 28 min: David Coulthard goes off but recovers. 26 min: Tarso Marques is in 22nd place and outside the 107%. He is 5.8 seconds off the pace. 25 min: The times are starting to go down again as the drivers take fuel out and use fresh tyres in preparation for qualifying. Ferrari and McLaren could clock sub 1:18 times ? 24 min: Jacques Villeneuve moves into 6th place with a time of 1:19.631. That is just under a second off the pace. 23 min: Panis moves up to 7th and splits the Jordans. Alonso is up in 17th place . 22 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Barrichello, Heidfeld, Trulli, Frentzen, R Schumacher, Raikkonen and Montoya. 21 min: Giancarlo Fisichella takes 16th place from Alesi. 20 min: Montoya takes 10th place with a time of 1:20.202. That is still over 1.5 seconds off the pace. 19 min: Jean Alesi improves in 16th place. Montoya on a fast lap. 18 min: Enrique Bernoldi improves to 12th place. 17 min: Nick Heidfeld moves into 5th ahead of both Jordans. Ralf Schumacher improves to 8th. 16 min: Jos Verstappen improved his time but remains in 14th. 15 min: Top 10 remains - M Schumacher, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Barrichello, Trulli, Frentzen, Heidfeld, Raikkonen, R Schumacher and Panis. 14 min: de la Rosa's crash was strange as he hit the wall while exiting the pit lane in a straight line! Looks like a mechanical problem in the Jaguar. 13 min: Fernando Alonso moves ahead of both Benettons in 19th place. 12 min: Pedro de la Rosa goes off and hits a wall at the end of the pitlane. He is OK but his session is over. 11 min: Luciano Burti improves his time but remains in 18th place. 10 min: Top 10 - M Schumacher, Hakkinen, Coulthard, Barrichello, Trulli, Frentzen, Heidfeld, Raikkonen, R Schumacher and Panis. 8 min: No driver has improved his time from the first session yet. 7 min: Several more drivers go out. Most of them on worn tyres. 5 min: Ralf Schumacher and Nick Heidfeld are on track. No improvements yet 3 min: Tarso Marques goes out on the track as well. 2 min: Fernando Alonso is the first to go out on the track. He only covered 4 laps in the first session. Session underway and it is quiet at this stage. The sky is mainly clear and the temperature is up to 16 degrees. The pace of Michael Schumacher during the first session was simply stunning. It will be interesting to see how McLaren reacts. Schumacher's time is more than 2.2 seconds faster than pole time of last year. Session starting in 2 minutes.
