GP - 2nd Friday Practice Session
Session over with David Coulthard fastest ahead of Eddie Irvine and Rubens Barrichello. Olivier Panis, Michael Schumacher and Mika Hakkinen make the top 6. 60 min: Panis moves to 4th! 60 min: Mika Hakkinen stops on the track then resumes?. 59 min: Michael Schumacher moves into 4th place still 0.77 seconds behind Coulthard. 59 min: Final run as Coulthard goes out on the track. 58 min: Ralf Schumacher misses a corner! 57 min: Michael Schumacher is back on the track while Hakkinen goes into the gravel but recovers. 56 min: Eddie Irvine is up in 2nd place with a time of 1:20.615. Villeneuve improves to 8th. 55 min: With 5 minutes to go, all the top 10 runners are on the track with the exception of Coulthard and Michael Schumacher. 52 min: Top 10 - Coulthard (1:20.107), Barrichello, Hakkinen, M Schumacher, de la Rosa, R Schumacher, Panis, Irvine, Villeneuve and Trulli. 50 min: Michael Schumacher has covered 20 laps already during this session alone compared to 14 for Coulthard and 10 for Hakkinen. 48 min: Rubens Barrichello has only covered 6 laps this session. He is still in 2nd place but lost valuable set-up time. 46 min: Eddie Irvine finally replies to de la Rosa's time and moves up into 8th place splitting the BAR's. 45 min: David Coulthard is almost 2 seconds faster than the best time on Friday of last year. Qualifying will be in the low 1:19's or even in the 1:18's. 43 min: Eddie Irvine is still in 19th place obviously struggling while his new team-mate is in 5th place.. 42 min: Top 10 - Coulthard (1:20.107), Barrichello, Hakkinen, M Schumacher, de la Rosa, R Schumacher, Panis, Villeneuve, Trulli and Raikkonen. 39 min: Jacques Villeneuve moves into 8th just behind Panis. Both BAR's are ahead of the 2 Jordan's 37 min: Ralf Schumacher does a few laps but fails to improve. 35 min: Top 10 - Coulthard (1:20.107), Barrichello, Hakkinen, M Schumacher, de la Rosa, R Schumacher, Panis, Trulli, Raikkonen and Heidfeld. 34 min: Luciano Burti on his debut with Prost is back in 21st place between the 2 Minardis. 33 min: Engine failure for Montoya. Another unlucky day for the Colombian. 32 min: Olivier Panis improves to 7th and is now the fastest Honda runner. 31 min: Enrique Bernoldi improves to 13th ahead of his team-mate. Eddie Irvine is struggling in 18th while de la Rosa on his debut is 5th fastest! 30 min: Top 10 - Coulthard (1:20.107), Barrichello, Hakkinen, M Schumacher, de la Rosa, R Schumacher, Trulli, Raikkonen, Heidfeld and Panis. 28 min: Pedro de la Rosa goes 5th fastest in the Jaguar! He is now the fastest Michelin runner. 27 min: Kimi Raikkonen takes 8th place from his team-mate Nick Heidfeld. Those two are very close. 26 min: Mika Hakkinen takes third spot from Michael Schumacher. 25 min: Villeneuve improves to 14th, 2.9 seconds off the pace. 24 min: Jenson Button improves to 15th from 21st. 23 min: Jacques Villeneuve finally goes out on the track this session and so does Irvine. 22 min: Fernando Alonso improves into 20th ahead of Jenson Button. 21 min: Top 10 - Coulthard (1:20.107), Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Hakkinen, de la Rosa, Trulli, Heidfeld, Panis and Montoya. 20 min: Tarso Marques goes off into the gravel. Session over for him. He is in 22nd place. 20 min: David Coulthard improves on his first place with a time of 1:20.107. 19 min: Pedro de la Rosa moves into the top 6 in the Jaguar! 18 min: Jos Verstappen finally get in a quick lap and moves to 12th place with a time of 1:22.962 17 min: Nick Heidfeld improves into 7th place just behind Trulli. 16 min: Jarno Trulli takes 6th place from Panis. His time is over 1.2 seconds slower than Coulthard's time. 15 min: Still no change in the top 10. Order - Coulthard (1:20.388), Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Hakkinen, Panis, Montoya, Trulli, Frentzen and Heidfeld. 12 min: Jean Alesi improves into 16th place. Villeneuve and Irvine have yet to go out. Both suffered mechanical problems in the morning session. 10 min: Jenson Button improves to 19th while Luciano Burti improves in 18th place. 7 min: There are no improvements in the top 10 so far. Order - Coulthard (1:20.388), Barrichello, M Schumacher, R Schumacher, Hakkinen, Panis, Montoya, Trulli, Frentzen and Heidfeld. 6 min: Jenson Button also improves to 20th place ahead of both Minardis now. 5 min: Giancarlo Fisichella is the first to improve as he moves to 11th place with a time of 1:22.971 4 min: No improvements on the times yet. 3 min: Mika Hakkinen and Ralf Schumacher go out on the track as well. 2 min: More drivers are out on the track including Montoya and Coulthard. 1 min: Both Jordans and Olivier Panis from BAR go out. All three didn't cover many laps in the first session. Session underway. The first session saw David Coulthard put in a stunning time on the very first lap.
