GP - Race Race result: David Coulthard wins ahead of Michael Schumacher and Nick Heidfeld. Olivier Panis, Jarno Trulli and Giancarlo Fisichella make the top 6. Lap 70: One lap to go. David Coulthard comfortable in lead ahead of Michael Schumacher and Nick Heidfeld. Lap 69: Nick Heidfeld looks set for his first podium finish in 3rd! Lap 68: Race order: David Coulthard ahead of Michael Schumacher by 19 seconds, Heidfeld, Panis, Trulli, Fisichella make the top 6. Lap 67: Panis overtakes Trulli for 4th place. Lap 67: Only the first two drivers are on the same lap. Panis is 0.3 seconds behind Trulli who is on full wets. Lap 66: Fisichella passes Alesi into 6th. Excellent news for Benetton! Lap 65: Race order: David Coulthard ahead of Michael Schumacher by 22 seconds, Heidfeld, Trulli, Panis and Alesi make the top 6. Lap 41: Michael Schumacher is catching David Coulthard however Michael is expected to stop once more. Lap 39: David Coulthard pits for his only stop unless it rains. He rejoins in the lead. Lap 38: Montoya is out!, he is hit from behind by Jos Verstappen. Coulthard leads the race.! Lap 36: Marques is the only remaining Brazilian on the track! Lap 35: Light rain falling on the track. Lap 28: Race order: Montoya 3.1 ahead of David Coulthard. Panis, Michael Schumacher, Trulli, Frentzen, Heidfeld, Raikkonen. Lap 26: Montoya leads Coulthard by 2.9 seconds. Michael Schumacher rejoins in fifth after his stop. Lap 25: Michael Schumacher in the pits (possibly on a 2 stop strategy!). Montoya still out in the lead. Lap 21: Panis passes Trulli for 4th. He might be on a 2 stop strategy. Lap 20: Panis catching Trulli while Frentzen appears to be having a problem as he is now 5 seconds behind Panis and is being caught by Heidfeld. Lap 19: Race order: Montoya 0.9 ahead of Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard. Trulli, Panis, Frentzen, Heidfeld, Raikkonen. Lap 17: Panis passes Frentzen for 5th place. Lap 15: Ralf Schumacher is still in the race but 4 laps down after being hit by Barrichello. He managed to get back to the pits and the mechanics managed to repair his car. Lap 14: Race order: Montoya 0.6 ahead of Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard. Trulli, Frentzen, Panis, Heidfeld, Raikkonen. Lap 12: Villeneuve pits early but returns to the track. Lap 10: Retirements: Mika Hakkinen (stalled), Rubens Barrichello (accident). Lap 9: Montoya appears to settle in first and is starting to build a gap to Michael. Lap 8: Villeneuve attempts to pass Frentzen but Frentzen manages to stay ahead. Lap 6: Race order: Montoya ahead of Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard. Trulli, Frentzen, Villeneuve. Lap 5: Eddie Irvine gets a 10 second penalty due to the mechanics staying on the grid for too long. Lap 4: Michael Schumacher very close to Montoya but on the straight Montoya is very hard to overtake. Lap 3: Race order: Montoya ahead of Michael Schumacher and David Coulthard. Trulli, Frentzen, Villeneuve. Lap 2: Safety car leaves and Juan Pablo Montoya overtakes Michael Schumacher. Rubens Barrichello hits Ralf Schumacher. Lap 1: It is amazing that no one touched Mika Hakkinen at the start. Race Start: Mika Hakkinen stalls on the start. Michael Schumacher leads with Montoya in 2nd and Coulthard in 3rd. Safety car on track. It took a while for the Jaguar mechanics to get away from Irvine's car. He might be penalised. Cars on the grid waiting for the start. Mechanics are clearing the grid and the formation lap is underway. The problem with Barrichello's race car was engine related. He is now in the spare car. Both Ferrari drivers have to be careful now as Ferrari only have one spare car here. Formation lap in 2 minutes. It will be an interesting fight for the first corner between the Schumacher brothers. Formation lap in 5 minutes. Drama with Rubens Barrichello as his car stops on the track on his way to the formation grid. He eventually gets back to the grid in the spare car.
